SEASON PREVIEW: BERKELEY SPORTS

Berkeley Sports look to be taking on a new fresh look in their 50-year Club Anniversary. The focus clearly looks to be on youth.

The club has recruited a host of young promising players including Ross Prandalos (APWE), Peter Besnard (Thirroul), Mark Jones (Fury), Chris Lazarevski (South Coast United), Hayden Till (Port Kembla), Luke Blatch and Jaksen Giraldi (Fernhill).

Exciting times ahead and if anyone though that these young guys couldn’t handle playing in the First team, you need only look as far as the Frat Cup where they recorded wins over Warilla Wanderers and Kiama Quarriers.

The club welcomes back Jarryd King who had a stint with Cringila Lions in the Premier League last year. 24-year old King is a pillar of strength at the back and has an uncanny ability to read the game well. He will be a key player for Berkeley Sports and if he can stay injury and suspension free, who knows?

Even at this early stage of the season though, Berkeley look like they may just finish a bit better than their eighth placed position last year. A top five finish is not beyond this team however with so many contending sides, I expect Berkeley’s depth to be tested at some stage during the season.

I think they will be battling a couple of clubs for that fifth spot come season close.
