SEASON PREVIEW: FERNHILL FOXES

Fernhill Foxes had a fantastic 2016 finishing in third, winning the Club Championship and making the Grand Final is all three grades. The Foxes aspire to challenge for top honours this year with the bulk of their squad retained.

The Foxes welcome Brad and Ryan Hunter from Warilla Wanderers. Given their dad (Robert) is President and their mum (Michelle) is Registrar, it is no surprise the boys found their way back to Fernhill.

The Foxes have also picked up the reliable and 2015 and 2016 Player of the Year Runner Up - Andrew Paine (formerly from Helensburgh and ex -Fox). Joining Andrew in midfield is Kolan Hmda (formerly from Warilla and South Coast United) who seems to enjoy playing in red and white. Up front, if Andrew Keep (formerly from Helensburgh and ex -Fox) can score 13 goals as he did in the 2015 season, the Foxes will be well served.

The club has also managed to entice former Tarrawanna central defender Tor Preece out from semi-retirement.

The club’s strength last year was their depth and defensive organisation where opposition teams found them difficult to break down. These new additions not only bolster their defence but they are sure to create a lot more attacking threats. This is something coach Dan McGouldrick touched on suggesting that was one of the key reasons why they finished behind Corrimal and Warilla last year.

The club made the Fraternity Club Cup Final and have the opportunity to get their first piece of silverware for the year.

With these new signings and great depth in the club, the Foxes will perhaps start the season as title favourites however they will need to get results consistently as most teams in the District League are capable of beating anyone on their day.
