Kemblawarra Fury were always going to find it difficult to replace the consistent goal threat of Robbie Shields, however, the club has struck gold with the acquisition of Anthony Proia.

The 23-year-old has scored 18 goals in 13 matches in all competitions this season, showing the attacking ability which made him a key figure for the AIS, Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory in the National Youth League over a number of seasons.

The Sydney-born Proia was also a member of the Australian under 17 side which made the knockout stage of the 2011 under 17 World Cup in Mexico. Though he found minutes hard to come by in the tournament proper, Proia did score twice against Portugal in the lead-up to the World Cup, a moment he still struggles to put into words.

Proia has had some difficulties in recent seasons including a relegation from the NPL 1 with Blacktown Spartans but he credits the Fury and their coach, Luke McGuire for giving him the opportunity to reinvigorate his career in the Illawarra Premier League.
