STATE CUP SEMI FINALS PREVIEW

The Football South Coast region has a rich history in the State Cup with a number of local teams winning the Football NSW knockout competition over the years. On Sunday, the semi finals of the 2017 editions will take place with 10 Junior and 2 All Age Women sides flying the flag for the region.

Albion Park’s All Age Women are our most recent winners after they won last season’s Grand Final. This season, they are back at it again with Miranda Magpies the only thing stopping them from reaching the decider again. Last season, they defeated Wollongong Olympic in the Grand Final and it could be another all Football South Coast affair with Tarrawanna facing Northbridge in the other semi final.

A similar scenario is lined up for the under 18 Men and under 16 Boys. In the under 18 Men, Tarrawanna and Kemblawarra Fury have progressed to the semi finals with the Fury travelling to Sydney to face Winston Hills while Tarrawanna welcome Kirrawee to Macedonia Park. The Blueys are currently second in the FSC 18 Division 1 and their coach, Beau Cropper would love to see an all Football South Coast Grand Final, “It would be great. It would be good for our clubs and also for Football South Coast as it shows the quality in our area.” In the under 16 Boys, Lake Heights face Lourdes FC while Coniston play Mt Pritchard. These two sides sit first and second in their division with their most recent clash finishing 1-0 to Lake Heights

Football South Coast sides are also featuring in the under 14, 16 and 18 Girls competitions. Albion Park faces Beecroft FC in the under 18 Women's semi final as the club continues to forge their women’s football dynasty. Shellharbour has enjoyed plenty of success in girl’s State Cup competitions with titles won in 2013 and 2014. This year, they are represented in the final four by Shellharbour White who will meet Leichhardt Saints FC. Fernhill feature in the under 14 Girls tournament after beating Woonona in the quarter finals. Fernhill is yet to concede in the State Cup and we hope that continues when they play Seaforth FC.

Perhaps the biggest clash on Sunday will be in the Frank Broughton Cup (under 12) when Shellharbour play Woonona at Myimbarr Park for a place in the Grand Final. The two sides have combined to score 22 goals in their eight matches so far so it is sure to be a great encounter. Shellharbour also has a side in the under 13 semi final, they have played four games to date and they have conceded just the single goal. They play Connells Point Rovers FC for a place in the decider.

It is guaranteed to be a huge weekend for the region. Regardless of the results, the sides competing highlight the strength of junior football on the South Coast. We wish every side the best of luck and we hope everyone enjoys the experience. We would love to see some photos from around these matches so share them with us on Twitter by adding @FSC_Offical to the post.
