DINKO’S DOUBLE DOWNS FLAT FALCONS

Coniston FC hosted Oak Flats Falcons at JJ Kelly Park on Saturday afternoon. The hosts were looking to continue their impressive form and maintaining the pressure on Bellambi who were only ahead of Coniston on goal difference. A win for Oak Flats would have pushed them into 6th place overlapping Balgownnie in a tightly contested mid-table. The last time these sides met Coniston came out on top defeating the Falcons 3-1.

Oak Flats came out hungrier then Coniston in the opening minutes yet they were unable to capatlise on their early possession, just misplacing crucial passes and handing possession over.

Despite the early possession, Coniston had the first attempt on target when Hiroaki Kohinoki bombed down the left hand edge and delivered a wicked ball which found the feet of Dinko Terzic, who undid his wingers hard work, smashing the ball far over the cross bar.

Coniston would continue their dominance, only allowing one half chance to the Falcons in the opening 15 minutes. Their control of the match would soon pay off when Kohei Enokido would whip a deeper cross into the Falcon's penalty area. Enokido's cross would find the head of Terzic, who this time would have no problem finishing, smashing his header past a helpless Ryan Franks.

The rest of the half would be mostly dictated by Coniston, however Oak Flats almost found an equalizer when Jamie Stevenson hit a free kick with venom. The shot looked destined to rattle the back of the net but a defiant Ben McGinnes would make a crucial save to keep his side in the lead.

Coniston had the final chance of the half but Mark Picciolini failed to convert after he brought the ball down with a gorgeous chest control, he skied the ball over the crossbar with the Half time whistle following shortly after.

The second half began as the first half ended, with Coniston dominating the play. They continued to mix their attacking plays and create opportunities for themselves.

Franc Pierro would almost double Coniston's lead, but his shot was tipped onto the crossbar by Franks. But the Falcons couldn’t hold out the relentless attack and after 66 minutes, Coniston would strike. An unnecessary foul gave Terzic a chance to stand over the dead ball. Terzic hit the ball with venom, beating the reach of Franks who was agonisingly close to making the save, getting a finger tip on the ball.

The game fizzled out after Coniston's second, Oak Flats failed to get a foothold in the game and Coniston wasted chances to gain any further advantage. The Coniston side ended up having 23 shots, while the Falcons could only manage 5 in the entire game.
