FRATERNITY CLUB CUP PREMIER LEAGUE - ROUND 2 REVIEW

The second round of the Fraternity Club Cup in the Premier League kicked off at Crehan Park on Thursday night with South Coast United holding out Cringila 3-2.

United suffered the worst defeat of the opening weekend but they didn't show any signs of a lack of confidence in the first half, racing out to a three-goal lead.

Ricky Bertakis scored the standout goal in the 32nd - a stunning strike from distance into the top left corner - and it was sandwiched between goals from Keiran Brodnik and Cameron Hanson.

Cringila showed resilience in the second half with Kristofer Stefanovski and James Ralston both scoring off set pieces, however, United held on to their lead to move off the bottom of Group C.

On Friday night, Terry Reserve was the venue for an engaging match which saw the Albion Park White Eagles down Wollongong United 2-1.

Cameron Morgan helped Albion Park gain control of the tie with a brace inside the opening eight minutes.

United custodian Sam Nastic made a number of crucial one-on-one saves in the period after to keep his side in the match and just before half time, Hikaru Kawasakiya pulled a goal back.

Nastic's opposite number, Brad Jardine, was the key figure in the second half pulling off a fantastic reaction save to deny Kawasaikya his second.

The White Eagles held out for the win which keeps them in contention for the next round while defeat for United means they will not be able to defend the title they have won for the last three seasons.

Coniston put in another solid preseason showing in the midday match on Sunday at Memorial Park, holding Bulli to a two-all draw.

Last season's top scorer in the District League, Dinko Terzic, capitalised on a defensive lapse by Bulli to open the scoring but Mitchell Del Turco brought the sides level just before the break.

Five minutes into the second half, new Bulli recruit Brendan Pattman put last year's double winners in front but youngster Matthew Poposki would score Coniston's second six minutes later.

The draw effectively ends the chances of either side progressing from Group A.

The late kick off at Memorial Park saw Corrimal move to the outright top of Group C with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Tarrawanna.

Midfielder Matthew Galanti found himself in the right spot to give the home side the lead six minutes into the match before Hayden Lloyd put the ball into his own net ten minutes before half time.

The Blueys couldn't find a way back into the match despite winning a penalty late on which Ricky Goodchild knocked off target.

The win sees Corrimal through to the next round while Tarrawanna need to beat South Coast United and have results go their way if they are to sneak through in second position.

Wollongong Olympic sit in top spot in Group A after a 2-0 win over Fernhill in the Sunday 12pm match at Wetherall Park.

The Foxes, who upset Bulli in the opening round, didn't make it easy for Olympic and it would take a Yusuke Ueda penalty just before the break for George Antoniou's side to hit the lead.

Olympic put the game to bed midway through the second half when Jamie Wakeling's corner bypassed everyone to find the back of Alex Josipovic's net.

The win sees Olympic through to the quarter finals while Fernhill still have a slim chance of being the best second place side.

In the 22nd minute, Nobuaki Mochizuki found himself in the Woonona boy and his blast at goal wasn't able to be kept out by Ben Wunsch.

Port found the lead in the 56th minute with Luke Boersma teeing up Jayden Salucci who slotted the ball home.

Port managed to maintain the spirited Woonona for the remainder and seal the win which sees them go top of Group B with one foot in the next round.
