FRATERNITY CLUB CUP DISTRICT LEAGUE - ROUND 3 REVIEW

Round three of the District League Fraternity Club Cup started with Shell Cove defeating Balgownie 3-2 on Thursday night at Memorial Park.

The opening goal came just six minutes in when Marko Bubanja netted his first goal of the tournament.

In the 19th minute, Anthony Vardareff restored parity before Jackson Dummett put the Rangers in the lead ten minutes later.

In the 45th minute, Marko Bubanja got Shell Cove back on level terms with his second of the game and eight minutes later Daniel Toskovski tucked away what would be the winner.

This result in Group F is a contrast to previous meetings as last season, Balgownie beat Shell Cove on both occasions.

Berkeley defeated Unanderra 2-0 at Terry Reserve in Group C.

Jayson Atanasoski opened the scoring on the stroke of half time and Adam White doubled their lead in the 64th minute.

Both Unanderra and Berkeley finish on three points with Unanderra sitting a place higher in second courtesy of goal difference.

On the first game of Sunday at Elizabeth Park, Warilla went down 2-1 to Thirroul in Group F.

The first goal came in the 12th minute when Benjamin Walchli scored. Daniel Arthur then added to that advantage in the 20th minute before Brenton Geribo pulled one back in the 31st minute.

This result sends Thirroul into a quarter-final clash with Bellambi. Thirroul were the only team in the entirety of last season to shutout Bellambi beating them 1-0 on the final day.

Helensburgh blew away University with a 7-2 smashing at Macedonia Park on Sunday in Group E.

Cody Cuthbertson and Kade Kinsella both netted braces for Helensburgh and Addison Grinham scored a hattrick.

Goals from Jesse Howard and Alex Coetzer reduced the deficit for the Students.

This takes Helensburgh’s goal tally to 13 which is more than any side across either division.

They face up to Corrimal in the quarterfinals who are yet to concede a goal in the competition.

The other game in Group F finished with Bellambi making it three from three with a 2-0 win over Kiama at Elizabeth Park.

In the 26th minute, Shaun Poulton scored the first goal and Matt Richardson made it 2-0 a minute before the break.

Kiama finish bottom of the group with three points. Kiama conceded on average 2.6 goals over the course of the three games in the Fraternity Club Cup. Unanderra only conceded 2.7 goals per game over course of last season’s District League competition which put them bottom.

Kiama will need to improve defensively to avoid a potential relegation scrap in this year’s competition.

Bellambi Rosellas 2 (Shaun Poulton 26’, Matt Richardson 34’) Kiama Quarriers 0

In the final game of the round, Picton went down 3-2 to Oak Flats in Group D.

Both Jarryd Vinton and Chad Fernandez scored for their second game running for the Falcons.

Will McLeod and Benjamin Baxter got the scoresheet for Picton.

This result means Oak Flats finish top of the group unbeaten on seven points.

They will play against Albion Park in the quarterfinals who qualified from a group with two of last season’s top five in it.  

As for Picton, they finish 3rd in the group on three points.
