AYL: ROUND 1 REVIEW

We played host to Blacktown Districts FA for the first round of the new season which was played on the newly redeveloped Ian McLennan Park. The synthetic pitch provided a wonderful setting for what was a historic and successful day.

Under 13's - Football South Coast 1-4 Blacktown Districts
The young lads started a little hesistantly conceding possession early forcing them to soak up a lot of pressure. Just as the team was starting to grow in confidence and begin to create its own chances, Blacktown Districts scored from a neat finish after some impulsive defending. It didn't take long for the opposition to strike again. This time, a long range shot managed to sail over the goalkeepers head and out of reach.

FSC started the second half more brightly and nearly scored early however that momentum was quickly entinguished when our opponents capitalised on a loose pass out from the back to make it three. Blacktown made it four when they found space in behind the FSC defence. To the boys' credit, they never gave up and a wonderful ball by Ben Cornford was well finished by Archer Butkovic.

Under 14's - Football South Coast 3-2 Blacktown Districts

The 14 boys took to the new pitch with vigour, moving the ball quickly between the opposition lines and down the field. Our opponents initially finding it difficult to break us down. They did however score first through a long range effort that just eluded our goalkeeper.

This seemed to spark the boys' attacking options as firstly Zac Birch leveled the scores in the 17th minute with a well taken goal and a nice assist from Owen Flanigan. Just 10 minutes later and we were in front courtesy of a quick switch of play and a nice finish from Kai Kubota. Right on the stroke of half time, we were awarded a penalty kick which was duly converted by Kohen White to put us 3-1 ahead at the break.

The opposition tried in vain to get back in the match and when a low pesky shot found its way into the corner of the goal, there was a little bit of hope for the visitors. The boys managed to hold on and secure an important three points to kick start their campaign.

It was a commendable performance by Zac Birch and Josh Bussoletti with James Dosante earning man of the match with his performance.

Under 15's - Football South Coast 4-2 Blacktown Districts
The boys were coming off the back of a great Bathurst Cup tournament where they reigned supreme. High hopes are expected from this team and they did not disappoint. The boys started the game on fire. Three goals in the opening ten minutes had the visitors reeling. They were playing fast, free-flowing football and dominating possession and chances however the Blacktown managed to stop the goals for the rest of the first half.

As is the case when teams are comfortably up, the boys appeared to take the foot of the pedal and allowed the visitors to claw themselves back into the match however, when we managed to get our fouth, the game looked safe. Coach Ben Schmid vowed to address the second half slide.

Under 16's - Football South Coast 3-2 Blacktown Districts
Both sides started a little tentatively with neither side really able to create any early worthwhile opportunities. The game came to life midway through the first half after some wonderful lead up work from Zander Alston teed up Ned Glasgow who made no mistake with his effort from right in front of goal. This was almost immediately cancelled out after some sloppy defending allowed Blacktown Districts to eqaualise.

FSC won a penalty kick just before half time which was neatly converted by Milos Radic however as was the case earlier, the visitors found an equaliser. A freekick somehow finding its way through the defence to tie the ball game 2-2 at half time.

The second half was an arm wrestle with neither side able to gain any great momentum. Just as the game looked destined to end in a draw, Riley Jordan created half a yard for himself and delivered a far post pass to Julian Naumovski who finished well from a tight angle. FSC saw out the game with a 3-2 win however whilst Coach Stan Pappas was relieved to get the three points, he was less than pleased with his sides decision making and efficiency.
