PEOPLECARE DISTRICT LEAGUE - ROUND 2 PREVIEW

Saturday 30 March

Berkeley vs Picton Rangers @ Berkeley Sports Ground

In round one, Berkeley was on the wrong end of a nine-goal thriller against Unanderra going down 5-4 with Jon Paul Adams netting twice for Goats. They face up to a Picton side who lost 3-0 to Oak Flats on their return to the District League. Berkeley will be looking to get their first points of the season after coming so close against Unanderra. The contrast in goalscoring form suggests that Berkeley will prevail in this one.

Berkeley

Oak Flats Falcons vs Balgownie Rangers @ Keith Bond Oval

Oak Flats won 3-0 against Picton in the opening round while Balgownie were defeated by the same scoreline at the hands of University. Both sides have the capabilities to finish inside the top five so this fixture could prove a very early indicator of their respective finals credentials.

Last season Oak Flats failed to beat Balgownie gaining just one point across the two meetings. Oak Flats will need to put previous failings against Balgownie behind them if they are to add another three points to their tally for the campaign.

Oak Flats Falcons

Warilla Wanderers vs Shell Cove @ King Mickey Park

Warilla had a tough time last time around going down 3-0 to Bellambi, but not as tough as Shell Cove who copped a 7-1 slapping against Helensburgh. Both sides will be looking to bounce back after difficult games in round one but with Shell Cove’s defensive issues, it provides the perfect opportunity for Warilla to take the points.

Warilla Wanderers

University vs Kiama Quarriers @ Kooloobong Oval

Both University and Kiama picked up surprising wins on the opening day while also keeping clean sheets. Last season, there was an average of four goals in the games played between the two sides - suggesting this could be a high scoring affair.

The Students played in the FFA Cup on Wednesday night so they could be a little weary after beating Gladesville Ravens 4-1. With both sides likely to finish near each other, this one will most probably end in stalemate.

Draw

Helensburgh Thistle vs Unanderra Hearts @ Rex Jackson Park

Helensburgh netted seven against Shell Cove which sent them top of the division. Unanderra also scored big with five goals against Berkeley but they also conceded four. This indicates a high scoring fixture although last season, Unanderra failed to score against Helensburgh across both meetings. With Helensburgh on such a high and Unanderra showing defensive instability, the Thistle should be able to make it two from two.

Helensburgh Thistle

Thirroul Thunder vs Bellambi Rosellas @ Thomas Gibson Park

Bellambi got their campaign off to a positive start in round one with a comfortable 3-0 win against Warilla. Thirroul, on the other hand, had a shock 2-0 loss at Kiama. Bellambi also defeated Thirroul by that same scoreline in preseason with Ilija Prenzoski grabbing a brace. The away side will be hoping to grab another three points as they continue their title push.
