FSC FFA CUP ROUND 3 REVIEW

The third round of the FFA Cup has been completed over the past fortnight with an impressive 10 out of 14 local clubs making it through to the next round of the competition.

Match 20 - Woy Woy FC vs Gerringong Breakers FC

@ Pluim Park 12 pm Saturday 16 March

Gerringong Breakers were the first Football South Club through to the fourth round of this year’s FFA Cup courtesy of a 2-1 win over Woy Woy FC at Pluim Park on the Central Coast.

Rob Franks and Josh Woods were the scorers for the Breakers while Trent Butler netted the only goal for the home side.

Match 21 - IFS Community Wolves vs Stanmore Hawks

@ Lakelands Oval 7 pm Wednesday 27 Match

IFS Community Wolves hosted NPL3 side Stanmore Hawks at Lakelands Oval in Dapto.

It proved a very difficult night for the Community League outfit with the side conceding a couple of goals early before going on to lose 7-0. 

Match 23 - Coledale Waves vs Budgewoi FC

@ St James Park 3 pm Saturday 30 March

The final match of round three saw Coledale Waves take on Central Coast side Budgewoi at St James Park with the Community League side getting up 3-1.

Nathan Howe scored early for the Waves before Zafiro Chiossoni doubled their advantage soon after. Ty Worby netted for the Budgies before half time but Coledale sealed their progression to the fourth round with a third goal through Kieran Smith.

Match 24 - South Coast Flame vs Fernhill Foxes

@ Ian McLennan Park 6.30 pm Wednesday 27 March

South Coast Flame produced a dramatic turnaround to go through to the next round courtesy of a 2-1 win over Illawarra Premier League side Fernhill.

Fernhill took the lead through a Matthew Donnelly’s Paul Pogbaesque penalty late in the first half and they held the lead until the 91st minute when Flame scored a penalty of their own through Matthew Mazevski.

South Coast’s passage to round four was sealed two minutes later when Caleb Grace tapped a lobbed through ball over the onrushing goalkeeper and into the goal.

Match 27 - Wollongong United vs Old Barker FC

@ Ian McLennan Park 8 pm Tuesday 26 March

Wollongong United made light worked of Old Barker beating the Gladesville Hornsby FA outfit 5-0 at Ian McLennan Park.

United took a two-goal lead into half time and they continued on with the job to secure a comfortable victory.

Match 41 - Wollongong Olympic vs Randwick City FC

@ PCYC 3 pm Sunday 24 March

Wollongong Olympic backed up the day after their 5-2 win over Cringila in round one of the Premier League to down Eastern Suburbs outfit Randwick City 5-3.

Olympic made it difficult for themselves but they eventually secured the win with two goals from Jamie Wakeling and a goal each for Johnny Martinoski, Ekoue D'Almeida and Dion Avouris.

Match 44 - Albion Park City vs Coniston

@ Ian McLennan Park 8.15 pm Wednesday 19 March

Coniston knocked out Albion Park City 6-0 before a 700 strong crowd at Ian McLennan Park who were there to see former Socceroos captain Craig Foster pull on the boots for the Community League minnows.

The Premier League side didn’t have it all their own way with the scores level at halftime but after City defender Brendan Reilly left the field the floodgates opened with goals for Matthew Tschentscher, Luke Picciolini, Boden Allport, Travis Anderson and two for Luke Picciolini.

On the night, money was also being raised for local refugee support organisations Mums 4 Refugees and SCARF with the best part of $10,000 being raised. The match was also streamed to over 24,000 viewers on Facebook and Youtube.

Match 46 - Blacktown Workers FC vs Woonona Sharks

@ H E Laybutt Reserve 7.30 pm Wednesday 27 March

Woonona came from behind to secure their spot in the fourth round with a 3-1 away win over Blacktown Workers.

The Workers scored eight minutes in and it would take until the 53rd for Aden Wade to level the match but from there the Sharks went on with the job with goals from Kota Odakura and Jesse French.

Match 52 - Wyoming FC vs Bulli

@ Pluim Park 7.30 pm Wednesday 27 March

Bulli ventured to the Central Coast for their first competitive hit out of 2019 and they managed to knock out Wyoming via a 5-1 victory.

Mitch Del Turco put on a show with a brace with Dylan Lewis, Blake Hewson and Brendan Pattman also finding the back of the net while the only scorer for the home side was Matthew Hall.

Match 53 - Tarrawanna Blueys  vs North Sydney United FC

@ Cawley Park 7.30 pm Tuesday 26 March

Tarrawanna progressed to the next round with a 7-0 win over North Sydney United at Cawley Park.

The Blueys only led by two at the break with goals for Ben Spruce and Yusuke Maruyama.

Keisuke Hayashi on debut for the club made it three 15 minutes into the second half with a cracking shot before the visitors fell apart in the final ten minutes with Ricky Goodchild and Stephen Lloyd both getting on the score sheet and Spruce and Hayashi netting their second goals respectively.

Match 57 - Killarney District SC vs Albion Park White Eagles

@ Pluim Park 7.30pm Wednesday 27 March

Albion Park travelled to Pluim Park on the same night as Bulli but they faced a much sterner test in Central Coast champions Killarney District.

The hosts led 1-0 at halftime with Valentino Merxhushi levelling the scores shortly after.

Killarney retook the lead as the White Eagles went down to ten men with Kyle Senior receiving his second yellow but Joel Beattie popped up to square the match.

In the closing stages, the home side were awarded their second penalty of the night and despite Jacob Hufton keeping out the first one, he couldn’t stop the second which saw Killarney go through to the next round with a 3-2 win.

Match 58 - University vs Gladesville Ravens

@ Ian McLennan Park 8.30 pm Wednesday 27 March

University backed up their solid District League opener with a resounding 4-1 win over Gladesville Hornsby FA side Gladesville Ravens.

Bruce Wilson opened the scoring early for the Students, the Ravens hit back through Grant Burgess half an hour in but Uni went to the break with a two-goal lead thanks to strikes from Doug Woodiwiss and Curtis Iverson.

Norwegian Mikkel Brandsnes scored University’s fourth in the 52nd minute and they managed to hold out for a strong win.
