OLYMPIC CLAIM POINTS OVER WHITE EAGLES

Olympic substitutes, Ekoue D’Almeida and Jamie Wakeling, both scored in the final five minutes to seal Olympic victory in an entertaining Premier League clash at the PCYC.

On a beautiful day for football, Olympic attacked from the off and were rewarded for their positive start with a classy Matt Floro goal in the 5th minute. Set up on a plate by Yusuke Ueda, Floro calmly side-footed the ball home.

Floro’s confident finish influenced the rest of his afternoon, as he became the impetus for the majority of Olympic’s attacks throughout the game. Dangerous and dazzling, Floro danced around the Albion Park defence numerous times and was unfortunate not to bag a few more goals, denied by the post on the stroke of half time and was kept out by Park’s keeper, Brad Jardine, on several occasions.

On the other hand, Albion Park had a lot of possession and time in Olympic’s half but lacked precision and creativity in the front third, often whipping in crosses that failed to beat the first man. Their most notable of chance came through Joel Beattie’s shot from the edge of the box in the 35th minute that narrowly missed the top of the crossbar, leaving the strong Olympic crowd worried for a fleeting moment.

As the clock ticked down, Albion Park began to rush the ball forward in the search for an equaliser, playing a series of long balls that provided Olympic plenty of opportunities to score on the counter against an exposed backline.

Ueda the man most likely to score Olympic's second became the creator instead, playing the final pass for both late goals, thus finishing the game with a hattrick of assists.

With the ball on the edge of the area in the 85th minute, Ueda turned his man and floated a pin-point cross onto the head of D’almeida at the far post. While in the 90th minute, Wakeling stroked home Ueda’s flamboyant backheel past the helpless Jardine.

It was a tough day at the office for Albion Park, who despite being outplayed were never out of the contest. They will look to rebound next week against Coniston at home.

Olympic, on the other hand, will feel that the score line reflected their dominance on the day which elevates them to the top of the Premier League ladder on goal difference ahead of next week’s match away to Corrimal.
