HEARTS CONTINUE FLYING START

Unanderra claimed three points at Unanderra Park in round 3 of the Illawarra District league, pulling off a 3-0 victory on against Warilla Wanderers on Sunday afternoon.

It was a solid start from both sides in the opening minutes of the match as they showed their attacking intent. The first shot on target was by Warilla’s Reece Mcintosh from just inside the area however it was easily gathered by Unanderra’s keeper Jordan Timpano.

The Hearts responded quickly and cracked the Wanderers early. Christian Plakias’s graceful touch in the 10th minute was followed by a drilled shot which was saved by Wanderers keeper Brad Hunter who could not hold onto the ball. As he got to his feet to regain possesion, Hunter was adjudged to have fouled and a penalty kick was awarded. Vas Mitovski stepped up and placed to Hunter's left.

Looking for an equaliser, Warilla almost claimed a goal on 25 minutes courtesy of Adrian Montalbano’s knuckle ball just outside the 18-yard box which scraped the top of the crossbar.

Montalbano initiated a counter attack in the 37th minute sending a cheeky through ball to Mcintosh, resulting in a clash with Timpano. The collison resulting in Mcintosh limping from the field.

With mere seconds left in the half, Plakis found himself in the 6-yard box, rocketing the ball into the top left corner of Hunter's goal giving Unanderra a deserved 2-0 lead at halftime.

In the 51st minute Hearts claimed their third, off a fast-paced counter attack. New recruit and former IPL player - Save Treneski turned his defender and sent the ball powering just under the cross bar effectively killing the contest as Unanderra raced to 3-0.

The Wanderers battled hard throughout the second half however despite dominating the play were really unable to find a way through Timpano who was proving difficult to beat. A wonderfully lofted shot on 60 minutes looked destined to go over the head of Timpano however he produced a spectacular one handed save, tipping the ball onto the cross bar back into play for Unanderra’s defence to clear.

There were no further major highlights as Unanderra cruised to victory as they continue their perfect start to the season.

Heart’s Coach Tony Dulevski was happy with the result and the performance - “after losing the mid-week game (Bampton Cup) against Shell Cove, it was good to bounce back with a win. Definitely happy with the clean sheet, it was an all-round good performance”.

Currently undefeated with three wins in a row, Unanderra are equal competition leaders with Oak Flats and Bellambi heading into Round 4. The Heart’s will face Thirroul next week while the Wanderers will be deperate for points as they host Picton.
