PEOPLECARE DISTRICT LEAGUE - ROUND 7 PREVIEW

Saturday 4 May

Shell Cove FC vs Bellambi FC @ Barrack Heights Sports Field

Shell Cove still sit towards the bottom of the table just two points clear of the relegation spot. They fell to Kiama last week, going down 3-1. It may be a massive ask for a win this weekend against table toppers Bellambi, who they also fell too only last week in a Bert Bampton cup tie where the Rosellas won 6-0.

Bellambi dropped their first points of the campaign following their 2-2 draw with Oak Flats. The Rosellas will still be confident in this one accounting for the Cove both times in last year’s fixtures and even just last week with the cup win.

A huge task for the Cove to get something out of this game which should see Bellambi run out comfortable winners.

Prediction: Bellambi

Berkeley Sports FC vs University FC @ Berkeley Sports and Social Club

The Goats are the only team left in the competition yet to pick up a win. Although they do sit on one point after six rounds. Last week they narrowly went down 2-1 at the hands of Thirroul which could spark some resurgence from home side this weekend.

University bounced back to a win following three straight defeats when they accounted for Picton, 5-0 at Kooloobong Oval. Five second half goals, including a Chris Twigg hat-trick gave the students all the points as they jumped the Rangers and moved back into the top five.

With an in-form University side travelling to bottom placed Berkeley, it should see them leave with all three points.

Prediction: University

Picton Rangers vs Balgownie Rangers @ Hume Oval

An inconsistent Picton side return to Hume Oval to take on Balgownie following their loss to University. The Bush-Pigs will be disappointed with last weekend’s performance as they were unable to find the net despite many opportunities in the first half before conceding five in the second.

The Rangers have picked up four points from their last two games, including a 2-2 draw with undefeated side, Unanderra on Saturday. They have now made their way up into eighth sitting on the same amount of points as Thirroul and their opponents this weekend.

An interesting encounter with bragging rights for the best “Rangers” on the line, this clash could be decided by a solitary goal, or end all square.

Prediction: Draw

Helensburgh Thistle FC vs Thirroul Thunder FC @ Rex Jackson Park

The Thistle moved up to second spot when they cruised past Warilla at King Mickey Park. Addison Grinham is still leading the top goal scorer tally boosting the Thistle to just one point from the top. Still only have lost just one game, the Thistle will be looking to do a repeat of the last time they met with Thirroul in which they won 2-1 in the Elimination final last September.

The Thunder are getting along steadily this season, sitting mid-table, just two points outside the top five. They are coming off a high with a 2-1 win over Berkeley but will need to be at their best to take down the Thistle at home.

The rivalry between the two clubs will be at its best here but with the Thistle flying high in 2019 it may be their day to grab the three points.

Prediction: Helensburgh

Unanderra Hearts vs Kiama Quarriers FC @ Unanderra Oval

The Hearts are continuing to impress this year, still yet to lose a game. They had to settle for a 2-2 draw away to Balgownie last weekend but will be eager to get back in the winner’s circle and keep the pressure on Bellambi and Helensburgh at the top of the table.

The Quarriers ended a string of four straight losses with a 3-1 win over Shell Cove. Kiama have conceded the league’s most goals this campaign with 27 and will need to hold firm when they take on the Hearts who have scored 17 goals in the opening six games.

Looking to continue their un-beaten run, the Hearts may prove too strong for a renewed Kiama outfit.

Prediction: Unanderra

Warilla Wanderers vs Oak Flats Falcons @ King Mickey Park

The Wanderers were on the receiving end of a 4-0 drubbing from Helensburgh. They have been pushed down to 10th following Kiama’s win and are still struggling to find top form. With two draws under their belt already, they may need to close out more games if they wish to move away from the bottom of the ladder.

The Falcons were the first team to take points of Bellambi last week following a 2-2 draw. They are still a part of the pack leading the competition, just three points off first and one point behind Unanderra in third. The Falcons still show plenty of signs of finals potential and will certainly push for the top spots in weeks to come.

With Daniel Munilla and Justin Potter continuing to lead the Falcons forward pack, there should be no doubt they will run out winners in this one.

Prediction: Oak Flats
