AYL | GCL | ROUND REVIEW

A sensational weekend for our junior teams as we took out six of seven matches thus showing our strength in our association programs.

ASSOCIATION YOUTH LEAGUE | Under 13 Boys | Football South Coast 2-1 Manly Warringah
The boys thought they had opened the scoring early however the referee disallowed the goal for an infringement. Things then got a little worse as Manly opened the scoring after a cheap turnover in midfield saw them take full advantage of that.

Almost immediately though as good sides do, we were level. Some good combination play saw the boys get an equaliser and this seemed to give the boys a big boost even though we went it the break at 1-1.

The second half was a tense affair as both sides looked to break the game open. It was Manly who were dominating large spells in the second half and some wasteful finishing and desperate defending was the only thing keeping our boys in that match at the stage.

We received an indirect free kick in the latter stages of the game and a well worked move saw the boys take the lead. Second placed Manly looked rocked by this and they just could not find a way through as FSC took out the match 2-1 in an entertaining match.

The win moves the boys to third on the ladder as we head into Round 10.

Player of the weekThomas Bent-Genge showed great leadership and determination throughout the week and his performance over the weekend was most pleasing.

ASSOCIATION YOUTH LEAGUE | Under 14 Boys | Football South Coast 3-2 Manly Warringah
This was a physical encounter against an eager Manly side who took the lead inside 8 minutes. We managed to level things up again on 18 minutes off a superb free kick from Ryan Thompson. With momentum clearly in our favour, we took the lead just before the break through Mckenzie King after some great teamwork in the lead up.

The visitors refused to lie down, and they hit back early in the second half to level the scores once more. Our boys kept battling and kept possession well showing patience.

As time ticked away, the breakthrough come with 7 minutes left after Nicholas Hailstone found Zachary Birch with a long ball over the top. Birch showed great pace to beat the defender to the ball and after taking a touch to compose himself unleashed a half volley that rocketed into the roof of the net.

Despite some late Manly pressure, the boys held on for the three points and now sit in equal third.

Player of the weekKai Kubota was dominant on match day taking control of the midfield and playing some wonderful short quick passes as practiced throughout the week.

ASSOCIATION YOUTH LEAGUE | Under 15 Boys | Football South Coast 2-2 Manly Warringah
FSC took the lead inside 15 minutes following a strong start to the game. When in possession, the boys moved the ball well for extended periods, but it was Manly’s speed in transition that seemed to trouble the boys a little bit.

Manly were showing signs of getting into the match through their busy midfield however full credit to our boys who managed to contain and keep them scoreless for the first half.

The second half saw FSC get back on top in the early stages as some small tactical changes seemed to stifle Manly’s style of play. This pressure led to FSC’s second and a third goal went begging that would have just about sealed the result however as happens in football, the game can change in the blink of an eye.

As Manly turned up the heat, they scored, and this pressure seemed to unsettle the boys as they were looking at closing out the game rather than continuing with their style. Manly managed to find a second to draw level and late in the game to secure a 2-2 draw and the boys were left scratching their heads at what should have been.

Never the less, it is another point which keeps the boys within touching distance as they move to second on the ladder.

Player of the weekIsaac Ball has shown great determination to get fit and gives 100% effort in everything he does. He had adapted well to the various coaching points he receives.

ASSOCIATION YOUTH LEAGUE | Under 16 Boys | Football South Coast 4-2 Manly Warringah
There was an air of confidence from the boys despite having the week off last round. Right from the start, the player’s attitude and intensity were on point.

It was however an unfortunate error that led to the opening goal for the visitors, but this did not deter the boys as they continued to play with style and purpose. FSC’s hard work was rewarded with back to back goals to put us ahead 2-1 at the break.

The half time break seemed to dampen our momentum and rhythm as Manly found an equaliser. This seemed to spur the boys into action and the front three for FSC were looking dangerous as they threatened the visitor’s goal.

FSC regained the lead mid-way through the half through a well worked corner routine before wrapping up the points from a well struck free kick late in the game.

It was a welcome three points for the boys as they climb to fourth on the competition ladder following their slow start to the season.

Player of the weekKyle Capocchiano has shown a great attitude at training applying instructions well. His work rate on game day was fantastic as he capped off a great performance with a goal.

GIRLS CONFERENCE LEAGUE | Under 14 Girls | Football South Coast 3-1 Hills United
On what was an emotional day, the girls started strong in attack and composed in defence. Excellent combination play in the final third saw a number of early chances and when a through ball found Helena Halios-Lewis, she made no mistake finishing in the bottom corner to put us ahead.

We continued to attack and were unlucky not to find a second goal as we went into the break one goal up.

Minutes after the resumption of the second half, Hills United found an equaliser against the run of play. A corner could not be effectively cleared and subsequently the opposition capitialised.

The goal seemed to kick start the girls into action as they began to turn the screws on the opposition. That pressure paid off as we won a penalty which was duly converted by Haley Cowie.

Less than 5 minutes later and we grabbed a third. It was Halios-Lewis again who cut inside her defender, rounded another player before unleashing a long-range effort that found the bottom corner.

Football South Coast controlled the tempo of the second half sealing a 3-1 win which puts them equal top in the league.

Player of the weekHelena Halios-Lewis. After an injury scare midweek, Helena showed great resilience and trained hard all week and she put in a strong performance on game day.

This week’s game saw the girls play some of their finest football as they dismantled the visitors. Playing the “Flame” way was on display and this was evident as the girls found themselves 2-0 up inside the opening 5 minutes through some creative combination plays.

The game plan was to attack through the wide areas and get in behind the opposition. This was executed well as the girls romped home 7-0. Some of the notable goals from the game came from a super long-range effort from Angelica Barraza and a stunning individual run and finish from Sienna Humphrey.

Player of the weekSienna Humphrey has trained well consistently with high intensity. She is regularly asking questions at training and on game day in order to improve her game. She had an outstanding performance on the weekend.

GIRLS CONFERENCE LEAGUE | Under 17 Girls | Football South Coast 5-2 Hills United
The game started at a frenetic pace with Hills maintaining a high press which seemed to initially unnerve the girls and somewhat hindered their ability to play out from the back.

As the game started to settle, the girls took control and began to play themselves out of trouble and create several chances of their own. Maddie Elmir was on hand to prod home from close range to put FSC in front at the break 1-0.

FSC blew the game open inside the first 5 minutes of the second half as we scored twice in as many minutes. Lara Golding struck a cut back home from 12 yards and a similar goal from Iluka Budai put FSC three-up.

To their credit, Hills managed to pull two goals back midway through the half to unsettle the girls a little bit.

Just as the visitors thought they had a sniff; Holly Johnstone restored a two-goal buffer with a well taken left foot shot before Budai iced the game late heading home her second and FSC’s fifth which saw the girls triumph.

The girls find themselves top of the league heading into round 6 this week.
