AYL | GCL | ROUND REVIEW

Our Association teams are super competitive, and they showed some great resilience and football awareness to win 7 of 9 matches over the weekend. That is a great return away from home against two tough opposition clubs.

ASSOCIATION YOUTH LEAGUE | Under 13 Boys | Blacktown Districts 3-4 Football South Coast
In an important match for the 13s, the boys were able to hang on over a fast finishing opposition for the 4-3 win.

In an excellent display in the first half, everyone contributed to a great team performance to be 4-1 up going into the break.

The break was perhaps our worst enemy as it the hosts to regroup. Blacktown weren’t about to give up and through some determined play, got back into the match with 2 goals in the second half to cut the deficit to just one. This created some nerves in our camp and some panic which resulted in us struggling to keep the ball. Nevertheless, the lads worked very hard and kept Blacktown out to claim an important victory.

The win puts the boys into third spot.

Player of the weekJackson Beniuk for consistently being one of the hardest workers at training and a composed, commanding performance in the match.

ASSOCIATION YOUTH LEAGUE | Under 14 Boys | Blacktown Districts 1-0 Football South Coast
Blacktown fielded a team that made our boys look diminutive and with their physical size, they also bought a very physical game. Our boys were slow to start and were put off by the sheer brute force of Blacktown's game.

It took a good 15 minutes of play before the lads settled into the game and started to push the ball around effectively. They struggled to get out of the back third with the dominating presence of Blacktown’s high press but were able to keep the ball in the middle third effectively. We headed into half time both scoreless, on top of the game possession wise, still not having had any real attempt on goal.

The boys took to the field in the second half and controlled the tempo of the game. However, Blacktown's direct play to their towering #9 took effect in the 38th minute of the match. 1-0 down.

The boys did not drop their heads and still skilled Blacktown in a lesson on keeping possession; however, we still couldn't find that elusive shot on target. In the end, the boys played well and put some great football on show but headed back home learning the cruel lesson our game can teach. You can be the better team and still lose 1-0.

Player of the weekOwen Flanigan for taking on board the cues of when to press and when to congest and applying these to his game play on the weekend. Continued attendance at training and a build in his application across all facets of his game.

ASSOCIATION YOUTH LEAGUE | Under 15 Boys | Blacktown Districts 1-2 Football South Coast
A very slow start by our boys saw Blacktown maintain good possession and have us on the back foot early. Technically we were very poor and gave the ball away far too often. Against the run of play we were able to score an early goal from a mistake made by Blacktown goalkeeper and we also took out chance through a counterattack. Going into the sheds 2-0 up but to be fair, we were rather fortunate.

The second half saw an improvement from our boys as we started to move the ball better, however still struggling to control Blacktown’s attack. With a goal to Blacktown halfway through the second half, our boys fought hard to ensure Blacktown weren’t to score again finishing the game 2-1 victors in what is often described as an ugly win.

Player of the weekKyle Ristevski put in a really good performance and the drive shown at training contributed to a really solid performance at centre back to keep Blacktown’s attack contained.

ASSOCIATION YOUTH LEAGUE | Under 16 Boys | Blacktown Districts 0-1 Football South Coast
At training the boys spoke about how they played against Manly and it was important that they continued on the same way.

It didn’t quite have the desired impact as we started defending deep allowing Blacktown to gain field territory and a lot of the ball in our half. The opposition however was unable to manufacture a shot on goal in what was a rather non-eventful first half.

After some adjustments at half time, we came out with more intent and desire to go forward and we were rewarded with a goal with some good build up and combination play from 5,11 10 and a good finish from our 9.

After the goal Blacktown came at us throwing players forward and we started to sit deep. They had one big opportunity that hit the cross bar but we stood strong and grinded out a 1-0 victory.

Player of the weekJulian Naumovski’s attitude at training has been a warm welcome and he led from the front at training and on game day where he worked tirelessly in defence.

GIRLS CONFERENCE LEAGUE | Under 14 Girls | Dunbar Rovers 0-6 Football South Coast
FSC continued their good run of form this weekend against Dunbar Rovers. We entered as favourites and hit the ground running. A goal from Caley Tallon-Henniker after just 2 minutes set the tone for what was an excellent half of football for the FSC.

Helena Halios-Lewis hit the back of the net twice, whilst Holly Penning added another before half time to give the girls a commanding 4-0 lead at half time.

The second half was mostly dominated again by the FSC who were keeping possession well and creating a lot of chances. Caley Tallon-Henniker got her second goal of the match early in the half, and Lily Roodenrys finished off the opposition with her first goal of the season with minutes remaining.

It was a dominant performance that sees the girls maintain top spot.

Player of the weekRuby Blanch has been training at a consistently high level for many weeks now and this is showing on game day. She has showed excellent positioning in defence and the composure on the ball to play the killer pass when it's needed.

GIRLS CONFERENCE LEAGUE | Under 15 Girls | Dunbar Rovers 0-2 Football South Coast
The Dunbar team came out of the change rooms and took the field highly determined to get a result out of the fixture. They played with high intensity and tried to break down the girls’ defensive shape. They had some success but were not able to capitalize.

True grit was shown by the FSC team and halfway through the first half, the girls started dominating down the left-hand side of the field. Sienna Humphrey and Sarah Ellis attacked with high intensity and forward running. On the back of creative play from Monique Koloski, Ellis opened up the scoring after beating her opponent 1v1 and finishing with finesse. Humphrey followed up from Ellis’ effort and overlapped effortlessly to get into to box and score the second.

The second half started much like the first. FSC continued to defend well and create more chances, with the Dunbar goalkeeper making a great save to prevent Emma Van Loo from adding her name to the goal scorers list.

Player of the weekMonique Koloski put in a great effort at training and she has been receptive to learning when given feedback. Outstanding performance on the weekend with creativity and flare in her play.

GIRLS CONFERENCE LEAGUE | Under 17 Girls | Dunbar Rovers 3-1 Football South Coast
A depleted and illness ravaged FSC travelled to Sydney and met the full force of a high intensity, high pressing Dunbar squad in a top of the table clash.

FSC struggled to live with the speed and physicality that Dunbar were bringing to the game. Our opposition capitilised on two misplaced passes early on in the game and punished FSC to the full, leading 2-0 at the half time interval.

After regathering themselves, the girls came out strong in the second stanza and had the better of the play as they pushed to get back into the game. Their patience and build up play was finally rewarded when Lara Golding pounced on a loose ball and prodded home to give the travelling side some hope.

But the age old saying "You are most vulnerable after scoring" rang true as a lapse in concentration allowed Dunbar to strike once more and put the game to bed.

Player of the weekBrinley Smart was one of the standout trainers in terms of effort as we looked to step up our intensity in training. She was a driving force on game day and led the line with a real stand out performance.
