AYL | GCL | ROUND REVIEW

We travelled to Southern Districts (AYL) and to Hills United (GCL) over the weekend and came away with some important wins. It is fantastic to see some many of our teams in top spot.

ASSOCIATION YOUTH LEAGUE | Under 13 Boys | Southern Districts 1-9 Football South Coast
It was a dominant display against spirited opposition where FSC took control after an early set back where we conceded the opening goal.

After conceding, the boys scored three goals inside 10 minutes to take the game by the scruff of the neck. The boys kicked on with it and played some excellent attacking football particularly in the second half.

The win solidifies top spot for the boys.

Player of the weekJamie Gorgievski worked extremely hard at training, taking responsibility for a mistake in the game with some excellent attacking play.

ASSOCIATION YOUTH LEAGUE | Under 14 Boys | Southern Districts 0-2 Football South Coast
The boys once again confidently combined to play through our defensive third and notch up the points.

Southern Districts took advantage of our precarious midfield shape during negative transitions and had a few chances through countering the space between our defensive line and midfield.

The boys had worked on their ability to link the great possession in the defensive third with the front third and our support worked wonders when it was there. Our first goal came from the brilliant positioning of Owen Flanigan from the wing at the far post to take a tap in on 26 minutes.

Our next goal came just on the stroke of half time (30 minutes) from the boot of Felix Cohen. Unfortunately, the second half was just as scrappy as the first. The boys fought off the quick counters from Southern Districts and managed to hold on for a 2-0 victory.

Player of the weekJackson Meers grew confidence playing a sweeping role and had a great game utilising his feet as an option back when the team was in trouble. He had a great first week back after a spate of injuries and hasn't missed a training session since.

ASSOCIATION YOUTH LEAGUE | Under 15 Boys | Southern Districts 0-1 Football South Coast
A positive start for our boys saw us play some nice football in the opening minutes, however the longer the game went on, the more frustrated we seemed to get. The frustration was a contributing factor to the number of mistakes being made. With momentum changing, the game became quite even with the scores locked 0-0 at half time.

Not five minutes into the second half, we were able to score the opener with Ashton Vozza finishing a great goal. This however did not lift the intensity or drive shown by our boys and for the rest of the game it remained quite even with a lot of simple mistakes being made by both teams across the park. Our boys were able to hold onto a 1-0 lead and walk away victors despite not being at their best.

Player of the weekAshton Vozza showed great leadership and at both training and on game day. He led by example and with great communication.

ASSOCIATION YOUTH LEAGUE | Under 16 Boys | Southern Districts 0-2 Football South Coast
Our intent was to positive after last week loss and that we did from the outset we were moving the ball around nicely getting in good positions but no final product we stayed patient and keep to our game plan it wasn't until the 33 minute we create our opening goal with good ball movement and finding our 9 Kyle on top of the box were finds the back of the net.
The second half started the way we finished controlling the game with lengthily ball position. We were getting a lot of crosses in the box but no reward. It was not until Gabriel received the ball on halfway bet 3 players and slotted the ball away a fine individual run to make 2 nil, we came close a number of times to make it 3.the pleasing factor is that we kept a clean sheet.

Player of the weekSam Alston worked hard during the week on his cues and understanding when to get forward and it paid off on game day.

GIRLS CONFERENCE LEAGUE | Under 14 Girls | Hills United 0-3 Football South Coast

FSC began that match on the front foot, creating attacking chances in the opening minutes. On 6 minutes, Holly Penning cut inside her defender, her low shot across goal was guided into the net by Demi Gay to give Flame the lead.

Three minutes later, it was Holly Penning to get herself a goal as she accelerated past her opponent and finished coolly into the bottom corner to double the girls’ lead.

Hills FC began to work their way into the game, however Flame’s defence held strong; Kellie McIntyre and Chloe Aivaliotis making several crucial tackles to keep the two-goal buffer into half time.

The second half begun much like the first, with FSC attacking high up the pitch and testing the Hills FC goalkeeper forced to make some excellent saves, giving Hills FC some hope.

Flame's pressure eventually resulted in a goal, when Helena Halios-Lewis cut a pass back to the penalty spot for Demi Gay to score her second of the match.

In the dying seconds of the match, a Hills FC attacker was brought down in the area and a penalty was awarded. FSC goalkeeper Charlotte Palmisano stood tall and guessed correctly, making an incredible double save to deny the Hills FC striker a consolation goal.

Full Time: Hills FC - 0, FSC - 3 (D. Gay 6' 48', H. Penning 9')

Player of the weekCharlotte Palmisano has been working hard when training with the team and has shown vast improvements through her goalkeeper training notably her positioning and distribution. Against Hills FC, Charlotte made a number of important saves and clearances and when called upon in the last minute of the game, showed nerve and composure to save a penalty and keep her clean sheet.

GIRLS CONFERENCE LEAGUE | Under 15 Girls | Hills United 2-2 Football South Coast
The girls traveled to the Hills for the first time this year. The game started at a high intensity and the home team came out with a game plan to be physical and press hard. The FSC girls kept their calm and played good football and often played through the opponents press even when they were outnumbered in their own penalty area.

Hills scored against the run of play when a clearance rebounded into the feet of the opponent and was dispatched. The FSC girls continued to play and created goal scoring opportunities. After a break down the right-hand side and a quality cross into the far post, Kira Lechowicz was in the right position to tap it into the back of the net and level the scores.

FSC then scored again through a run by Libby Loveday from central defence. She combined with the midfield and got herself into the box to score and put the girls into the lead.

Hills continued to press hard using direct long balls. They won a free kick outside the box and finished it with a wonderful strike into the top left corner to once again draw the game level.

The FSC girls continue to create opportunities but were not able to convert and the game finished in a draw

Player of the weekLibby Loveday always trains at a high level and she implements feedback given to her at training. She has continued to evolve her positional awareness in both attack and defence.

GIRLS CONFERENCE LEAGUE | Under 17 Girls | Hills United 1-3 Football South Coast

A mild Sydney afternoon played host to an entertaining game of football between two committed sides.
Hills began the game with a high press and had some success trying to unsettle the Flame girls.

The first 10 minutes indicated that it would be a somewhat open game as both sides had their fair share of the ball and chances. As the game progressed, Flame really took control of the game and a wonderful piece of individual play from Brinley Smart served up Beth Portelli who made no mistake converting from 6 yards to put the Flame up 1-0.

Hills were facing a flurry of yellow attacks and the pressure soon told as Holly Johnstone went on a trademark mazy run and scored the flames second of the afternoon.

The second half started in very similar fashion as we penetrated the Hills defensive line on many occasions and soon after, we had our third as Maddie Elmir's driving shot from outside the penalty area found the net.

To our oppositions credit, they never gave it up and came home strong winning multiple set pieces deep in FSC's half. Hills would find their goal from a set piece, but it was too little too late as FSC ran out 3-1 winners.

Player of the weekLara Golding's work rate was phenominal in transitional periods of the game and settled Flame nerves with her ability to slow the game down and find a free team mate.
Her technical development continues to be impressive.
