AYL | GCL | ROUND REVIEW

It was a great week for our junior teams with six of seven recording wins. In the process, our 14 Girls made it back to back League Championships.

ASSOCIATION YOUTH LEAGUE | Under 13 Boys | Football South Coast 4-0 Macarthur FA
The boys bounced back in the winner’s circle with a comprehensive 4-0 win over Macarthur over the weekend.

It was a scrappy first half to be fair with the opposition making things a little difficult however we still managed to take the lead through a fine individual piece of brilliance from Blake Pearson.

The lads got some momentum after that and started to play some fantastic football. Pearson managed to nab his second of the match before a long-range effort from Josh Keir effectively sealed the result. A late goal to Imen Tarah put the icing on the cake.

Player of the weekBlake Pearson not only bagged a double in the game, he has had a great attitude to training as well.

ASSOCIATION YOUTH LEAGUE | Under 14 Boys | Football South Coast 0-2 Macarthur FA
The boys took to the field with vigour playing as the dominant team across the pitch. We held possession well and Macarthur were initially void of ideas on how to break us down. We did manage a few notable shots on goal however the scores were locked at 0-0 at the break.

During the second half, we were starting to make some iffy decisions as we looked for a breakthrough. We were dealt a blow when we lost Kai Kubota to a red card for a handball on the line. Macarthur were initially unable to capitalise as they skied the penalty.

As the game wore on though, Macarthur was starting to get the upper hand and in the 50th minute, they took the lead courtesy of an error.

To the boys’ credit, they did not give up and despite being down to 10, the boys were creating chances of their own. Macarthur finally sealed the game very late as we bombed players forward and were caught short at the back.

We went down 2-0 but the boys’ effort could not be faulted and just some minor execution of skills and decision making being the difference in the end.

Player of the weekNick Hailstone recently returned from injury and has been faultless at training and during the game, he showed great determination and leadership.

ASSOCIATION YOUTH LEAGUE | Under 16 Boys | Football South Coast 3-1 Macarthur FA
It wasn’t the brightest of starts for Football South Coast however, the boys managed to get on the scoresheet first on 11 minutes when a corner from Riley Jordan found its way into goal.

It wasn’t till midway through the half when Football South Coast started to take control with more sustained possession and composure. This swing led to FSC’s second goal when Kyle Capocchiano finished off a nice build up to give the boys a handy 2-0 lead at the break.

The boys looked to have got into the swing as the second half was a further improvement to the first. More sustained pressure had Macarthur scrambling and midway through the half the opposition turned the ball into their own net as FSC now led 3-0.

Inside the dying embers of the game, Macarthur got what was only a consolation goal after a long throw was not dealt with properly. In the end, it was a solid win from a team that has struggled a bit this year for consistency however credit to the boys who are looking to finish the season on a high.

Player of the weekMilos Radic adapted to the request to play a little deeper this week. He understood his cues and his work rate was excellent.

GIRLS CONFERENCE LEAGUE | Under 14 Girls | Camden Tigers 0-4 Football South Coast
The girls travelled to Camden knowing that just a point was going to be enough to seal the League Championship.

With this motivation, the girls approached the game with great focus and confidence taking the game to the opposition right from the opening whistle. Demi Gay’s ball movement was constantly turning around the Tigers defence with wingers Holly Penning and Caley Tallon-Henniker exploiting the space in behind.

With the pressure on the home side mounting, Hayley Cowie received the ball on the edge of the area and side footed the ball into the bottom corner giving the girls the early lead.

Minutes later, Penning played a clever bounce pass off Helena Halios-Lewis, rounded the defender and unleashed a cracking left foot shot that looped over the keeper and into the goal giving FSC a 2-0 lead going into the break.

Just 60 seconds from the restart, the game and League Championship was as good as over when Gay fed a lovely ball through to Tallon-Henniker who made no mistake dispatching her effort past the keeper.

The girls firmly took control of the game as the opposition struggled to get out of their own half. With seconds to go, Flame iced the game through a stunning Kelly McIntyre long range free kick that soared into the roof of the net sealing a comprehensive win and minor premiership.

Player of the weekDemi Gay’s attitude at training has been outstanding, always looking to further her game and lead by example on the field. Against Camden, she played a crucial role in keeping possession for her team and executed instructions set for her with great effect.

GIRLS CONFERENCE LEAGUE | Under 15 Girls | Camden Tigers 0-4 Football South Coast
Fresh from celebrating their League title last weekend, the girl’s dispatched a Tigers team that simply could not match the efficiency and intensity with Flame.

The game started at a frenetic pace and the confidence was soaring as the girls looked to play some of their best football of the season. The combinations between Sienna Humphries and Sarah Ellis on the left and Isabella Zipparo on the right proved formidable.

The centre pairing of Emma Van Loo and Libby Loveday were flawless whilst the midfield combinations of Caitlyn Zamuner, Brooke Love and Angelica Barraza were working tirelessly on and off the ball.

It was only a matter of time until the opening score. After a neat combination down the left, a clever decoy run by Emily Franklin allowed Barraza to gain possession in a good position. She calmly took a touch and buried her shot past the outstretched arms of the goalkeeper.

Two goals in the space of a few minutes from Love and Loveday saw the girls cruise to a 3-0 half time lead.

Flame brought on the fresh legs of Monique Koloski and Emily Kostovski who did extremely well to nullify the Tigers who were looking for a response in the second half. Despite a much stronger Tigers second half, the girls held firm and Humphries grabbed a fourth to perhaps rub salt into the wound late on to round out a terrific team performance.

Player of the weekAngelica Barraza implemented feedback given to her at training and on game day. Her creativity on the ball in a new position led to multiple chances.

GIRLS CONFERENCE LEAGUE | Under 17 Girls | Camden Tigers 1-3 Football South Coast
Flame continued their pursuit of top spot making it 11 games unbeaten.

The girls got off to a flying start when Beth Portelli got on the end of a Sariah Wilson free kick to score the opening goal after just 40 seconds.

It was clear that Camden were looking to outmuscle the girls as the game started to get a little physical with the game plagued by free kicks.

Despite the rough tactics, Flame looked to play football and after a neat build up, the girls had their second when Wilson scored a peach of a goal in a long-range effort with her weaker foot no less.

Camden came out even more fired up in the second half however as fatigue started to set in, the game opened up. The Tigers pulled a goal back when their attacker scored a bomb catching everyone by surprise and it was game on again.

Just as Camden thought they were in with a chance, Wilson restored Flame’s two goal buffer with a well taken free kick on what was a productive day for the captain. In the end, this was enough to see off the Tigers’ challenge and keeps the girls hot on the heels of Dunbar who have the League destiny in their own hands however any slip up could see Flame snatch the League title.

Player of the weekDarby Walsh was impressive in the heart of the Flame defensive line and she shows a great willingness to learn by asking questions and implementing advice.
