GIRLS CONFERENCE LEAGUE | Under 14 Girls | Football South Coast 1-0 Blacktown City
Flame looked to continue their winning ways as hey faced a talented Blacktown City side who were coming off a solid win last round and have proved to be tough opponents this season.

As minor premiers, Flame started confidently keeping good possession whilst making some inroads through the City defence. Their goalkeeper produced two stunning saves early to ensure the scores remained level.

As Blacktown looked to play out from the back, some great pressure from Demi Gay forced a turnover and when she created a few yards of space, she managed to curl her shot past the outstretched hands of the goalkeeper to give Flame the lead.

Flame would see a number of other good chances go missing as Blacktown City began to play their way back into the game. Flame’s defence was holding firm and handled all major threats well as they saw out the first half with the lead.

Blacktown come out fired up in the second half as they looked to take the game to Flame. They started pressing higher up the pitch and this led to a few chances for the visitors however Jordan Dawe and Charlotte Palmisano coming to the rescue twice inside the opening minutes of the second term.

City’s high press did have some draw backs as Flame looked to penetrate the high line and force their opponents to scramble. Flame called up 13 Girls SAP player Alyssa Nickovska into the team and she combined well with the dangerous Holly Penning and Helena Halios-Lewis to exploit the space in behind the front line.

There was one last chance deep into the game when Blacktown’s striker was clear through on goal however Jordan Dawe came from nowhere to make a last ditched tackle taking the ball away from the attacker before firing her shot away.

This proved crucial as Flame went on to win the game 1-0 in a hard-fought match. The 3-points makes it 16 straight wins as the girls look to build more confidence heading into the finals series.

GIRLS CONFERENCE LEAGUE | Under 15 Girls | Football South Coast 0-0 Blacktown City
A gorgeous day for football saw Blacktown looking to play the game in Flame’s half. It was regular long ball stuff from the visitors who crowded the centre of the field and relied on the pace of their attacking players to threaten Flame.

Contrastingly, Flame was content to play the ball along the ground and keep possession as they looked to create chances by going around their tight defence.

These contrasting styles did not produce a great deal of chances however the best chances feel to Flame. Sienna Humphrey’s run down the right saw her deliver a wonderful ball across goal however Piper Cowen was inches from connecting as the chance went begging.

Shortly after Blacktown struck the post, a free kick from Brooke Love had the keeper scrambling as it hit the wrong side of the post. Kira Lechowicz and Angelica Barraza were threatening as well however neither side found a way through subsequently the game ended scoreless.

Player of the weekBrooke Love showed a good attitude at training and she put in a strong performance on the weekend.

The first half to be fair was rather scrappy with neither team able to hold onto possession for extended periods of time. It seemed evident that both sides struggled to adapt the hard and fast pitch.

Although Flame were not at their best, they did (as good teams do) find a way to score. It was a little fortunate, but they all count. Sariah Wilson floated a corner across goal, and it looked like the breeze swung it back around and it found its way past the goalkeeper.

Despite going into the break a goal up, the girls were not exactly pleased with their performance however they adjusted well in the second half to take the game almost immediately to the visitors.

Flame started to control the tempo and hold possession. With that, came chances. Ebony Montgomery found herself open and her lobbing finish from 25 yards out caught the keeper in no mans land.

More strong combination play saw Brinley Smart find Maddie Elmir unmarked in the box and she headed home for Flame’s third as the girls were in total control of the match.

It was a strong second half and finish to the game from the girls to keep the pressure on Camden as they look steal the premiership over the last few rounds.
