DISTRICT LEAGUE CONFERENCE | ROUND 3 REVIEW | FRAT CUP

University, Fernhill, Oak Flats and Shell Cove all secured their place in the Quarter Finals on Wednesday after an intruiging last round of action.

Unanderra Hearts 2 (Daniel Jorge 58’, Jason Dimovski 68’) Oak Flats Falcons 4 (Jamie Stevenson 11’, 23’, Daniel Munilla 17’, Kyle Del 50’)

The first game on Thursday night for the District League element of the competition saw a clash between Unanderra and Oak Flats. The Falcons took the points with a 4-2 victory at Crehan Park.

Jamie Stevenson got Oak Flats off to a flyer scoring just 11 minutes in before Daniel Munilla doubled this lead six minutes later. Stevenson scored his second in the 23rd minute sending his side into cruise control at the halftime break.

The Falcons continued the scoring in the second period when Kyle Del found the net. A late resurgence from the Hearts saw the side score in the 58th minute through Daniel Jorge before Jason Dimovski scored with a couple of minutes to play.

Oak Flats will finish at the pinnacle of Group C on five points. They will play against Premier League side Tarrawanna in the Quarterfinals, while their opponents go out of the competition after finishing in second place.

Berkeley 1 (James Beltrame) Shell Cove 2 (Goran Nikolovski, Gadir Maarbini)

Shell Cove edged past Berkeley 2-1 in the second match on Thursday night in Group B at Macedonia Park.

All three goals came in the first half with Shell Cove scoring through Goran Nikolovski and Gadir Maarbini. James Beltrame halved the deficit for the Goats scoring what turned out to be Berkeley’s only goal in the competition.

Shell Cove finish in second place in the group behind Fernhill only on goal difference. They will now play against Coniston in the quarterfinals. Their opponents Berkeley finish the group in third ahead of Thirroul on goal difference.

Helensburgh Thistle 1 (Kade Kinsella 69’) Balgownie Rangers 1 (Mark Jones 57’)

Helensburgh and Balgownie played out a 1-1 draw in the first match of Sunday at Memorial Park.

It took nearly an hour for the match to have its first goal - Mark Jones getting on the end of a set-piece to tap home for the Rangers. Kade Kinsella spared the Thistle’s blushes with an exquisite outside of the foot finish with a minute to play.

This result sees Helensburgh finish the group in third place - one point ahead of Balgownie in bottom position.

Thirroul Thunder 1 (Ashley Hawkes 6’) Fernhill Foxes 4 (Scott Muilwyk 15’, 18’, 51’, Andy Keep 46’)

In the first District League game of Sunday at Wetherall Park, Fernhill defeated Thirroul 4-1.

It was a fast start from the Thunder who scored within six minutes through Ashley Hawkes. However, a quickfire double from Scott Muilwyk roughly ten minutes later turned the scoreline around for the Foxes. Andy Keep extended the advantage for Fernhill in the 46th minute before Muilwyk completed his hattrick five minutes later.

Fernhill will go up against Premier League League Champions Wollongong Olympic in the quarterfinals of the competition. The Thunder finish at the foot of Group B.

Kiama Quarriers 3 (Matthew Hiriart 30’, James Braid 45’, Brian Montanari 52’) Warilla 2 (Colin Walker 34’, Sasa Cugalj 36’)

Kiama got their first victory of the competition with a 3-2 win against Warilla at Wetherall Park.

Matthew Hiriart opened the scoring for the Quarriers with a goal on the half-hour mark. However, a goal either side of half time from the Wanderers through Colin Walker then Sasa Cugalj saw the side go in front. James Braid equalised for Kiama ten minutes into the second period before Brian Montanarri scored what would turn out to be the winner in the 52nd minute.

Neither side in this Group A fixture were able to make it through to the quarterfinals with Kiama finishing in second position while Warilla finished in last.

University FC 1 (Cameron Hanson 41’) Picton Rangers 0

University prevailed against Picton with a slim 1-0 victory at Memorial Park on Sunday.

Cameron Hanson scored the only goal of the match six minutes into the second half.

This result sees University through to the quarterfinals of the competition where they will go up against Wollongong United.

Picton, on the other hand, finish Group A in third place level on points with the second placed Kiama Quarriers.
