In game one Sydney University played Easts. 4th placed Sydney University maintained their excellent form defeating Easts. Scores were Sydney University 10.14.74 to Easts 0.0.0.
In game two it was a head-to-head clash between second placed Balmain taking on minor Premiers Wests. Balmain were more committed than Wests and won convincingly finishing strongly with a strong 2nd half to cause the first loss to the undefeated Wests. The final score was Balmain 12.6.78 to Wests 2.5.17. Belinda Pride (Balmain Dockers) continued her excellent form with 6 goals. The Irish watch will have to wait another week.
In game three out in the southern suburbs of Sydney St. George farewelled Olds Park playing Newtown. St George started out strongly but Newtown came from behind in the final quarter to win 9.8.62 to St George 8.6.54. All the St George coach said was "Non, je ne regrette rien". For Newtown it was one of their gutsiest wins that they will remember for a long-time.
Rd 15 brings the last round of regular home and away season matches. Two games are at Mahoney with the battle of the cellar dwellers in the morning game at 10am where both improving St. George and Easts take on each other. Unfortunately the non-winner of the match will pick the unloved wooden kitchen implement as the prize. At 2pm 2nd-placed Balmain take on 4th Sydney University which will prove excellent preparation for finals footy the week after. Both teams will be keen to continue their recent good form.
The last game at 12 noon at Picken Oval, Ashbury sees Minor Premiers Wests take on 3rd placed Newtown. Wests will be keen to regain their league leading form whilst Newtown will be eager to regain their full squad.
We look forward to seeing you next week!
