In the last home and away round.
Wests 12.13.87 defeated Newtown 3.3.21. Full-forward sensation Marie Keating suffered an injury which stopped the century goal watch for the week. Wests will be looking for their sixth encounter with Balmain in the major semi-final next week whilst Newtown regroup for their Elimination Minor Semi Final against Sydney University.
Balmain 16.10.106 were dominant over a valiant Sydney University 0.0.0. Belinda Pride kicked another bag of goals for the third week in a row and only 11 goals this week.
In the final match for the battle of the wooden spoon an inaccurate St George kicked their way to victory 9.23.77 over Easts 1.1.7. Easts Coach Geoff Odgers must be congratulated for bringing a team of 14 new players to Aussie Rules together and no doubt there is high confidence amongst the Stingrays that they will be a force to be reckoned with in 2009. For the Crows, it was a wonderful note to finish the season as throughout the season there was three games they reckoned they should have closed out as winners and look forward to 2009 with finals expectation as a realistic prospect.
For the other 4 teams in the finals we say congratulations for making it and once again well done to Wests for being minor premiers.
So the Elimination Semi-Final is at 10am at Mahoney Park between Newtown and Sydney University. For the winner - a chance to take on the loser of the major semi-final. The loser shall join Easts and St George on their Mad Monday.
The Major Semi-Final is at 12 noon between Wests and Balmain. For the victor it will be a berth in the 2008 SWAFL Grand Final, whilst for the loser a chance to redeem themselves against the winner of the Elimination Semi-Final.
