The Sydney Women's Australian Football League is proud to announce the venue of this year's award ceremony as Paddington RSL on Friday, 12 September 2008 (the first Friday after the 2008 SWAFL Grand Final).
Paddington RSL is located at 220 Oxford St, Paddington near Victoria Barracks. There is limited on-street parking available nearby. Otherwise catch the 333, 378, 380 buses from the city that stop outside its door. http://www.paddorsl.com.au/index.html
Like the men's Brownlow ceremony, celebrate another great season of women's football and see who the umpires believe has been the best and fairest player amongst us all. Other awards to be given out include the best rookie, leading goal-scorer and the player's player as nominated by opposition clubs. The best rookie award is definitely going to be a highlight with so many new players this year who have been outstanding from all six clubs.
So there is a 2 course meal while you celebrate your team-mates success on the field.
For those who haven't been before, the umpires each match award on a 3 (best), 2 and 1 vote basis on which they thought was the best and fairest on the football field. Any player who has been deemed guilty to any charge to the SWAFL Tribunal is deemed ineligible but may continue to be awarded votes by the umpires. Then the eligible player with the most number of votes shall be deemed the winner. Previously the winner has not necessarily come from the clubs who have finished on top thus all players from all clubs have an equal chance of winning (i.e. Melinda Hyland from Sydney University Blue was the winner in 2006 even though the team came 6th).
So the time: 7pm for start of 7:30pm
Finishes 10pm; however a DJ is there after the ceremony until 12 midnight so feel free to boogie!
Costs: $35 ($25 if you sold your whole complete book of raffle books). Contact your club representative to co-ordinate a group booking and payment.
THERE WILL BE NO CASH PAYMENTS ACCEPTED ON THE NIGHT.
THE FINAL CUTOFF FOR RSVP IS Tuesday, SEPTEMBER 9 for club representatives to pay and confirm numbers to SWAFL President, Jemma Still.
