G'Day! What a game ! Thank you to everyone who attended, supported, watched us on TV, listened on radio etc. We appreciate your support ! As our season comes to a close as far as games played in Townsville are concerned, I would like to take the opportunity to thank our office staff - Judy, Mikaela and Eleni, for the incredible job they have done for us all season and in putting on last weekend's event. They are always friendly, honest, hard working and pleasant to be around day to day, but then are each incredibly talented in their own right and are a big part of who we are as a club. To our support staff for trainings and games - Johnny Mac and Donna, your service to our team is unparalleled and we can't thank both of you enough for the time and effort you both devote to being key parts of what we do. To all of our specialist staff, from Max to Dr Kev to Jo and everyone inbetween, we are very thankful of all your work in helping our team perform at their very best week in, week out. To our game-day volunteers, we always notice your selfless service to our club and your undying support and smiling faces are a pleasure to see on game day. Games wouldn't flow like they do off-court, if it weren't for the collective efforts of each and every one of you. Last but not least, thank you to our fans - your support, your voice, the facebook likes, facebook posts, tweets, stopping us in the street or at the shops to shake hands and wish us well etc - those things really make this season's experience a great one. We love the feedback, the 'keep this, stop this, start that' all are in good will and we love how invested you all are into our Basketball club. On to Dandenong ...

SF Report: Townsville hold off Boomers in playoff classic
|
It was a game for the ages but ultimately the Fire prevailed in front of their home crowd. The Townsville Fire kept their season alive with a stunning 78-73 win over the Melbourne Boomers, the contest decided by a heart-stopping fourth quarter. "That was like Ali vs Frazier, blow for blow," Townsville assistant coach Mark Alabakov said. "The swings were for us and against us and the crowd certainly rode the bumps, you could tell by the volume how we were tracking. "Just when you thought you had a little bit of a gap on (Melbourne) they'd shorten it up pretty quick and it was back into a pound-for-pound contest." After Townsville's Steph Cumming opened the final 10 minutes with a strong drive, tough baskets from Bec Cole and Amber Hegge gave Melbourne the lead. Read more

McCully still flying under the radar
|
Townsville guard Rachael McCully remains one of the most underrated players in the WNBL. The talk after Townsville's incredible victory over Melbourne last week was about Suzy Batkovic's all-around brilliance, the clutch shooting of Micaela Cocks and Mia Newley, and Bec Allen's coming-out party. In that breathtaking final quarter, Rachael McCully was scoring, finding teammates, grabbing offensive boards and making clutch free throws - but her contribution seemed to go under the radar.
