TBI 2014/15 Junior Representative Program
Good morning
We are about to advertise on our website for online registration for the 2014/2015 TBI Junior Representative Basketball Season Coach Applications. Today I have received an email from Graham Burns advising that they have nearly finalised the process of the outstanding coach accreditation courses held here in Townsville last year. Please make a note online when registering if you were a participant in one of these courses and it will be duly noted.
As part of the TBI Rep Policy document, we are able to reappoint coaches into positions and this offer has been accepted by the Under 18, 16 and 14 Flames and Under 12 Heat Coaches for the 2014/2015 season only.
All other age groups are open and depending on the number of applicants received will determine if we can introduce an Under 14 and Under 12 Spark teams.
An independent panel will be reviewing the applications , the same process as in the 2013/2014 seasons, added to the panel are Shawn Dennis and Mike Kelly.
Applications will close on Tuesday the 17th June, 2014.

Coach Education
Shawn Dennis has kindly offered to come on board to educate our coaches and our first meeting will be held Thursday 26th June, 2014 at 6pm. At this meeting Shawn will be asking you what you wish to learn and he has also offered to develop a skills booklet for our representative coaches.
This meeting is open to all coaches in all clubs at all levels, please ensure that your coaches are informed of this meeting. It is anticipated that these meetings will take place on the last Thursday of each month which may vary from time to time with Shawn’s commitment to the Crocs program.
Under 12 Rep Selection
This year our Under twelve players who wish to participate in the upcoming representative program will not have trials held over three consecutive Sundays but will be required to register online and participate in a six week training program held two mornings per week which would commence at 6am for a 6:15am start with the program finished by 7:30am. We would then provide breakfast for players before leaving to attend school and the cost would be to cover expenses only.
Proposed dates are as follows;
Boys
15th & 17th July
22nd & 24thJuly
29th & 31st July
5th & 7th August
12 & 14th August
19th & 21st August
Girls
14th & 16th July
21st & 23rd July
28th & 30th July
4th & 6th August
11th & 13th August
18th & 20th August
We are currently in discussion with coaches to run these training clinics and will be meeting with more over the next few weeks to assist us with this program. Obviously the more players who participate in this program the more coaching staff required. Whilst you may think that the process we have put in place may seem a little unorthodox, from our communications with other associations there appears to be a trend of change coming through as to how coaches and players are being selected. Other associations are appointing and approaching coaches for positions that they feel they would be most suited to and as part of their appointment they are expected to have an active role in the association’s development programs. There appears to be some success through these programs in educating coaches and improving the skill sets of our upcoming junior representative players.
We will advertise the information pertaining to the Under 12 program and rep trials shortly on our website, face book, notice board and via email as a means of making contact with all junior players playing in our club competition. At the end of the Under 12’s six week training session, players will be selected into the teams for the representative season. There would be no other trials or costs to players just a one off fee to cover expenses.
The fee associated for this program will be $55 per player.
Trial Dates for all other ages
Sunday 10th, 17th & 24th August,2014
Depending on numbers registering in each age bracket, will determine the length and number of trials.
