HEAT HOT FOR ROD

Townsville Basketball is pleased to announce to re-appointment of local stalwart Rodney Anderson as the Townsville Heat head coach for the 2016 QBL season. Anderson moved into the lead role in April 2015 following the departure of Crocodiles legend Mike Kelly to Melbourne nearly leading the team to a finals berth in his first season as a head coach at the QBL level.

A former Townsville Basketball junior and self confessed Basketball junkie, Anderson demonstrated throughout his first season why he is so well respected within Basketball circles in the Townsville community. After a rocky start to the season, the Heat flourished with Rodney at the helm. The team boasted a stellar home record including impressive wins over eventual finals teams Gladstone and Rockhampton.

2016 will prove a new challenge for the Heat with some player movement occurring within the team including the loss of long time captain and emotional leader Keegan Tudehope, who has relocated to London. Anderson shared that he is looking forward to the challenge of building his roster over the coming weeks and leading the team full a through pre-season to really stamp his mark on the team.

“I'm really excited to be able to continue on from the excellent season we had last year and hopefully take the next step towards making the finals and getting the Townsville Heat back to the top where we belong. It was a very rushed start to last season after Mike left, so I'm really looking forward to getting stuck in during the preseason and being ready to go come game 1” Anderson offered.

Townsville Basketball QBL program manager Greg Vandrejagt shared his excitement at the opportunity for Rodney to continue to establish himself as a QBL head coach.

“Having the opportunity to work with Rod last year as an assistant was very rewarding for myself, he has a wealth of knowledge and I believe this opportunity to lead the team full time this year will see Rod really stamp his own brand of Basketball on the group”.

The Heat will kick off their pre-season with open trials on February 22nd & 25th of 106.3FM Townsville Stadium as they look to add the final pieces to what is hoped to be a championship team in 2016.
