LONG BOMBER DJERIC BACK WITH HEAT

Townsville Crocodiles young gun and proven match winner Mirko Djeric has signed with the Beehive-QSolutions Heat for the 2016 QBL season. Following an NBL season which saw Mirko make huge strides as a professional he will be honing his skills in the off-season in Townsville and helping the Heat in their quest to return to finals Basketball in 2016.

A crowd favourite at The Swamp for the Crocodiles, Mirko brings a passion and energy to the court that is infectious on his team mates.

“Mirko has the unique ability to change the momentum of a game single-handedly, he has unlimited range from the perimeter and is a crafty shot creator off the dribble” offered Townsville Basketball QBL Program Manager Greg Vanderjagt.

“One of our needs in the review from last season was the desire to add a player who has the ability to space the floor for 2016, there certainly aren’t too many players who can do that to the level that Mirko can in the QBL. Mirko is a very passionate player who loves to compete and challenge his team mates to be better everyday, his work ethic at the Crocodiles is fantastic and he is starting to realise the things he needs to do on the day to day in order to be a long term professional at the NBL level”.

Djeric returns to the Heat after a one season absence, he played for the Mike Kelly lead team in 2014 alongside Crocodiles team mate Mitch Norton. He felt that this time around Heat fans will see a much more mature and consistent player.

“I’ve really worked hard over the past two NBL seasons to get in much better shape and dedicate myself to being a professional. I want to help the Heat win this season and much as I want to utilise the resources available to me here in Townsville to springboard to the 2016/17 NBL season”.

“Having played with the team in 2014 I’m familiar with all of the guys and it’s a great group to be around. We work hard at training and I’m excited about what we can possibly achieve this year, I think we’ve got a good mix of talent here. The QBL has gotten a lot better each season so we will need to be consistent all year to get back to the finals”.

The Beehive-QSolutions Heat will head to Mackay in mid April for their final pre-season games before taking on the Cairns Marlins at home in round 1 of the QBL on May 1st.
