FLAMES SECURE OPALS STAR FOR QBL

The off season recruiting binge for the Dennis’ Computers Flames has continued with the signing of Australian Opals forward and Townsville Fire dual premiership winner Cayla George. The signing of George on the eve of the 2016 QBL season is a major coup for the program and the Flames quest to return to the playoffs in 2016.

Flames head coach Brady Walsmley shared his excitement at the addition of George to an already talent laden roster. “Cayla fills the only piece of the puzzle we were truly missing, with her size and athletic ability she fits the group perfectly and having her available around her Opals commitments is going to be a major bonus for our team this year”.

“She has proven over a number of years now that she can be a dominant performer at not only the WNBL level, but also in the QBL and internationally. Her connection with Nat, Chevvy and Ainsley from the Fire will help the transition into our team and I know the whole group is excited to have her on board”.

George availability for the Flames will be dependent on her Australian Opals national team commitments. With numerous camps and tours over the coming months, George is battling a number of very talented players to secure her place on the 2016 Rio Olympic roster. She saw the Flames as a great opportunity to help her prepare for the journey with the Opals.

“I just love playing, I can’t get enough of Basketball and when the opportunity came up with the Flames I jumped at it. I’ve played in the QBL previously with Cairns and also the SEABL with Hobart as I have been preparing for major tournaments and it has really helped me be in great shape going into trial camps. This year is no different and I want to not only get myself ready for national team duties but also help the Flames get back to the playoffs”.

“Basketball in Townsville has been great for me and this is home for my husband and I. We love the community support here and I know it will be no different at The Furnace for the Flames this year”

The 2016 QBL season for the Dennis’ Computers Flames tips off this Sunday at 1:00pm against the Cairns Dolphins who are coached by dual Olympian Mark Worthington and boast as very talented roster. Season tickets are still available, call Townsville basketball on 4778 3400 for more information.
