MESSAGE FROM RBI PRESIDENT

CON KYREAKOU JUNE 2012

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to let you know about some exciting things that have been happening in and around Rockhampton Basketball.

We have been working hard in the background to improve the service to our members.  Shortly we will have two new employees, an Administrator and a Development officer.  We have had Jamie Boon move on to other employment and Mike McShane has returned to the USA for family reasons.

We are excited to announce that we have received a Grant from the Frenchville Sports Club for a Shooting Machine.  This will be available to help improve our members shooting game and is very generous on behalf of the Frenchville Sports Club to award us this Grant. We are presently on the hunt for a replacement water drinking fountain and hopefully we will be able to have a new fountain installed in the near future. We have applied for the U16 Boys Classics to be held here in 2013.  We are very hopeful that we will be successful in our application to stage these games.

In some other exciting news, we are in negotiations to hold a WNBL game at Hegvold in October between Logan and Bendigo.  If we are successful with this, we will hold a training camp on the Thursday preceding the game. Keep a look out for more information on this as it comes to hand.

We are always on the lookout for new players so if you know anyone, young or old, we would love for you to bring them along and try their hand at our great game!

The Rockets and Cyclones are doing extremely well at present and hope, that if you do get out to see a game, that you thoroughly enjoy watching our talented basketballers play!

We are delighted with the news that our Patron, Mr John Hegvold, has been awarded for his many years of service to basketball in Rockhampton by receiving the Order of Australia Medal in this year’s Queen’s Birthday honours.  Congratulations John!

Yours in basketball, Con
