McLennan hangs up the boots

Andrew “Rookie” McLennan, currently the oldest player in the MSBL, has informed the club of his retirement just two games into the 2012 season. Andrew's career commenced in 1994 and totalling an amazing 366 SBL games - 278 with Stirling and 88 with East Perth Eagles - and 80 games in the ABA with Sydney Comets.

Andrew is busy in his professional life, having commenced this year in a new position as a State Business Manager for Coca-Cola Amatil, and will spend more time at the beach, playing golf, and playing Australian Rules football.

Commencing basketball in 1981 as a six year old in Under 12s Andrew has played continually through to this season. He list as career highlights: a tour to Oregon, USA with a TIP team as a 17 year old where he was offered a scholarship with Oregon Institute of Technology which he declined in favour of studying at UWA; Runner up in the Australian Under 20 Nationals in 1994;SBL Leader in Steals in two seasons; ABA Premierships with Sydney Comets in 2002 and 2003; and finishing his career with the club his parents played with, as Highgate, from the 1960's
