Meteors Girls U/14 2013 Victoria Country Champions
Our Girls pathway to premiership – Friday Defeated Colac by 26, Seymour by 51 & Island District by 68. Sunday Defeated Port Fairy by 31, Ararat by 29 and lost to Bellarine 8. Monday Defeated Maffra by 2, Geelong by 18 in semis and Bendigo in grand final by 3 point.
Bendigo got out to an early lead and Moe slowly pegged back and then managed to take the lead hang onto a close finishing game.
This is the First time Moe has won Division 1 championships in Vic Country.
The win is great for Gippsland basketball. Also having 3 teams from the Gippsland district in the top eight highlight how strong the area has become. This Moe side has made the semi’s in the past 3 years but until now never made it all the way.
Coaches Brett Cornish and Caz Shelley couldn’t be more happier than they are of their girls, They worked so hard to get there and their never give up attitude and discipline is the main reason they are now state champions.
The girls have now opened a pathway to compete in an Invitational Classic held in Melbourne in June and the National Championships later in the year.
