Redbacks Win Quarter Finals

The Perth Redbacks’ men’s State Basketball League team had a strong home game win against Mandurah Magic 116 to 94.

This sees them clean-sweep the best of three-game quarter final series with two straight wins and qualify for the semi-final playoff round.

It is also the Redbacks eighth-straight win in the competition.

The game got off to a tight start with Magic establishing a six-point lead early in the first quarter.

The Redbacks then bounced back quickly to turn the six-point deficit around to a 30 to 19 lead at the end of the first quarter courteous of a 17-point, five rebound effort by their power-forward Lee Roberts.

The Redbacks never looked back after that steadily building the lead up to the eventual winning margin of 22.

Roberts was the game high scorer with 34 along with 16 rebounds and four assists.

Forward Stan Okoye was the Redbacks next highest scorer with 28 and nine rebounds, while point-guard Joel Wagner put in his typical captain’s effort in controlling the game tempo and making 11 assists.

Shooting guard Marshall Nelson scored 14 and had three assists while fellow guard Jarrad Jackson had 11 points.

The Magic’s top-scorer was forward Taylor Mullenax with 19 along with 11 rebounds while fellow forward Rhett Della Maddalena had 15 points and seven rebounds.

The Redbacks semi-final opponents will be the East Perth Eagles following their two-game to one quarter final series win over the Rockingham Flames.

The semi-final playoff schedules will be released by the State Basketball League early this week.
