AVENEL v TALLYGAROOPNA
Avenel will be eager to avoid a second straight defeat when it takes on Tallygaroopna.
The Swans tasted their defeat for the first time when beaten by their arch rival Nagambie.
The defeat knocked them off the top of the ladder, but it really doesn’t matter too much with the teams to face off in the second semi-final in week two of the finals.
Some will say the loss to the Lakers was the one they had to have before the finals and that it will only make them hungrier.
Mystery remains if coach, Kathryn Hard will take her place. She has been battling injury since hurting some ligaments in her foot six weeks ago.
Tallygaroopna has been tracking really well and Julie Telford will appreciate the contest as it will give her playing roster the hard edge heading into the elimination final against either Merrigum or Stanhope in week one of the finals.
Telford knows her team can match it with any of the top echelon of teams.
Tallygaroopna really gave the Swans a run for their money at the end of May and if they can replicate that form then the travelling Redlegs’ are a big show.
MERRIGUM v LANCASTER
A win for Merrigum means they will finish fifth while a defeat is likely to relegate them to sixth and an elimination final match-up with Tallygaroopna if Stanhope wins its match against Ardmona.
The Bulldogs have been very good this year, but have yet to claim a big scalp, losing all their matches against the top four teams.
Lancaster will go into the contest fresh having sat round 19 out with the bye,
The Wombats are really starting to hit their straps and they will fancy their chances of doing the double over the Bulldogs and then launching an assault on the finals in a bid to defend the premiership they narrowly claimed last year.
OTHER
In the other games, Stanhope will be looking to leap as high as possible on the ladder by finishing with a win against Ardmona; Undera and Girgarre are playing for pride; Nagambie will stitch up the minor premiership at Longwood and Violet Town will finish its year on a high by defeating Rushworth.
My tips: Violet Town, Nagambie, Girgarre, Stanhope, Merrigum and Tallygaroopna.
