AVENEL v MERRIGUM
This is without doubt the match of the round.
I have no doubt that both Cameron Gillett and Christian Barnett will find out a little about their team and where the improvement will need to come to be a real contender come September.
Both had wins last week, with Merrigum a little more convincing while the Swans showed enormous character to come from behind in the last quarter to win at Lancaster.
It is the momentum that is sure to be with them early in the game against the Bulldogs.
Ashley Neville (four goals), Micheal McKenzie, Paul Arandt, Lachlan Drummond (three goals), Scott Tyers and Mitchell Berry lead the charge in the last quarter when the Swans booted seven goals from 12 scoring shots to storm home.
Merrigum was locked in a real arm wrestle against Violet Town and it wasn’t until an eight goal third quarter blitz that it was able to shake off Violet Town.
2013 McNamara Medallist Joshua Pell led from the front while new recruit Thomas Durward also played a starring role.
Chris Kilmartin, Jake Ross, John Forbes and Jonathan Barnett were other key contributors while Joshua Smith and Bryce Wellington shared in eight goals – each kicking four goals.
TALLYGAROOPNA v RUSHWORTH
This is a real opportunity for the Redlegs’ to chalk up another win.
The boys have showed patches of good form this year, but have found it hard to put together four consistent quarters on a regular basis.
Jesse Beckhusrt, Russell and Brett Sheriff, Aaron Wood and Mathew Heggart have been some of the real shining lights for Tallygaroopna.
Rushworth will be buoyed by the fact it has played some good form in the past fortnight, having defeated Longwood two weeks ago.
Matthew Thomas, Craig Turner, Billy Wall, Benjamin Alessandrini, Patrick Wright and Alex Gelsi will be the players that need to keep up their good form for the Tigers to be a chance of grabbing another four points.
VIOLET TOWN v UNDERA
Both Violet Town and Undera showed some real determination and character to push their respective opponents for a half last weekend.
Unfortunately neither of them was able to sustain it and went down.
Jeremy Grace, Alex Duff, Robert Saker, Daniel Edwards, Ben Dyer and Thomas Madden were the shining lights for Violet Town while Daniel Breen, Jack Hajro, Luke Durling, Adam Brassil, Nathan Frizzell and Jayedon Hexter all tried hard to lift the Lions against Stanhope.
OTHER
In the other matches, Lancaster should be able to end a run of outs with a win over Longwood, Murchison will chasing a third straight win at home to Girgarre and Ardmona faces a difficult task on the road to Nagambie.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS FROM ROUND 11
1. Heath Barnett kicks six for Lancaster
2. Pat Rattray kicks nine for Nagambie, who had 14 different goal-kickers.
3. Dwayne Fitzpatrick leads the way with six goals for Girgarre.
4. Luke Chapman was best on ground for Murchison in the win over the Cats.
5. Craig Whelan kicks two in his return game in the KDL in Lancaster’s loss.
My tips: Nagambie, Lancaster, Murchison, Merrigum, Violet Town and Tallygaroopna
