Member clubs of the Frankston & District Junior Football League (FDJFL) on Monday night adopted a new constitution, bringing the league under the governance and administration of the AFL South East Commission. The move brings the FDJFL under the same governance and administrative structure as the South East Juniors, South East FNL and the Mornington Peninsula Nepean FL. Former FDJFL Executive member Garry Woolard will join the Commission as the FDJFL representative and assumes the role as FDJFL Chairman until the next Annual General Meeting when nominations are called.
AFL South East general manager Jeremy Bourke described the move as progressive for the league. “Bringing our leagues together under a unified governance and administrative model allows us to provide a greater level of support to our clubs at the same time as reducing club fees. The FDJFL now has access to a dedicated operations resource, a league manager and supporting full-time resources in the areas finance, commercial operations, media and communications, umpiring, female football and football development. This is a stunning progression for a league that 2 years ago was being run purely by volunteers. We have some immediate priorities for these staff to attend to within the FDJFL and we look forward to some exciting initiatives and announcements within the coming months”.
The FDJFL will continue to base its administration at its current headquarters at Kananook Reserve. The league’s management will be overseen by AFL South East Leagues Manager Shaun Connell, with Pauline Pawsey continuing to head up operations. The move comes after AFL South East released its recommendations following a regional governance review was conducted in 2015. Only the Mornington Peninsula Junior FL now sit outside the recommended governance model, with their clubs resolving to vote on the move at their AGM at the end of the season.
