EYE ON MORE SUCCESS
Jack Doidge has his eye on more premiership glory with the Benalla Saints. Last year, the 17-year-old figured in the Saints third eighteen success over Seymour.
Having started the year off in the thirds, Doidge broke into the powerful senior line-up for his debut against Euroa.
He acknowledges that he had little time to adjust to the pace of senior football having lined-up on the experienced Brad Cunningham from the Magpies. “I was able to understand pretty quickly that the game was a lot quicker, but it was a good experience to play on Brad,” he said. “He showed me through his experience a fair bit about positioning and where to run.”
The Year 12 Benalla College student said it is nice to be at the same school as senior coach Luke Morgan. Morgan is a teacher at the college. “He has been pretty happy with my games,” he said. “He has told me that I have been clean and I’m using it well.”
Doidge said he had won a bit more of the ball in his second game during the team’s comprehensive win against the reigning premier. “I was playing on a younger bloke, so that helped me adjust to the pace of the game,” he said.
The talented midfielder said his goal is simple for this year. “I just want to play as many senior games as possible and enjoy more success no matter where I’m playing whether that be with the thirds or the seniors,” he said.
Doidge is a product of Auskick Benalla before graduating to primary school football and then under 14s and under 16s with the club
