The Bendigo Bank Maryborough & Castlemaine District Football Netball League is pleased to release its Senior Fixture for the 2015 MCDFNL season. The 2015 season will start off with one game on Saturday 11th April 2015, with reigning premiers Navarre welcoming the team they defeated in the 2014 Grand Final, Carisbrook, to Navarre Reserve in what should be a bumper stand-alone fixture. The remainder of Round 1 will kick off on the weekend of Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th April 2015.
Other key features of the 2015 draw include
- The continuation of night football at Carisbrook at Trentham, with six games being played under lights from rounds two through six.
- Trentham once again hosting a night fixture on ANZAC Day as they did so successfully in 2014, welcoming Talbot to Trentham Reserve.
- Speaking of ANZAC Day, two ANZAC Day night games and two Sunday games have been scheduled to pay tribute on the 100th anniversary of ANZAC Day
- A revamped junior interleague program, with matches against the Central Highlands FL at Clunes on Wednesday 8th April, and against the Riddell District FNL under lights at Trentham on Wednesday 13th May.
- The MCDFNL will host the Ellinbank & District FNL in the VWA AFL Victoria Country Championships at Princes Park in Maryborough on Saturday 23rd May.
- MCDFNL Grand Final Day to be held on Sunday 20th September 2015 at Princes Park, Maryborough.
- Key Sunday match-ups scheduled throughout the season
All clubs will have two scheduled breaks in the first three months of the season, with Easter falling before the scheduled start of the season. All clubs will break on the weekend of May 23rd/24th due to the VWA AFL Victoria Country Championships and also on Queen’s Birthday weekend in June. The league has also fixtured a split round in Round 14 to give clubs a break in the lead-up to finals.
After circulating a draft fixture at the 2014 AGM, MCDFNL Operations Manager Scott Carey received feedback from clubs which assisted in the finalization of the fixture prior to its official release.
“The league has worked closely with clubs in creating the 2015 fixture, receiving “wish lists” from clubs containing their requests for next season”, Carey commented.
“We’ve been able to accommodate most club wishes, resulting in what we feel will be an exciting fixture for 2015”.
“After requests from clubs, the league has been able to reduce the amount of Sunday fixtures for 2015, including no games on Mother’s Day, and whilst each club will still participate in at least one Sunday fixture, they are now more as a showcase rather than a necessity”.
“With several marquee matches throughout the season, including our standalone Season Opener between the two Grand Finalists from 2014 and the continuation of night fixtures at Carisbrook and Trentham, we’re confident that the fixture will cater for another fantastic season of MCDFNL football and netball”.
Themed rounds will be added at a later date once all AFL Goldfields Leagues have finalised their draws to ensure all themes can be rolled out across all competitions.
The 2015 MCDFNL junior fixture will be released in early 2015 after further consultation with clubs around their team affiliations for the season.
