Katandra playing coach Natalie Ralph believed her team had improved since the narrow round one win against Shepparton East. Saturday’s Picola District Netball League south-east win would suggest the Kats have stepped up a notch and are gearing up for another tilt at the flag. The Kats led from start to finish at Shepparton East and extended their lead over the Eagles at every change. Shepparton East fought out the game well, but Ralph said she was more than happy with the effort.
‘‘I liked the fact we could increase the lead quarter by quarter by a few goals, we brought some fresh legs on in the last quarter, but a few started to tighten up,’’ Ralph said.
‘‘Those first three quarters were really strong and I was really happy with how the girls conducted themselves on the court.’’
Defender Elisha Briggs did a standout job on Eagles’ star goaler JenniMcCluskey. Steph Teague, who could have got the job on McCluskey, was also good in defence.
‘‘I played Elisha on Jenni to use Steph with the run and maybe that rattled them a bit and having somebody different, but her intensity and pressure was really outstanding,’’ Ralph said.
Kats goaler Aimee Sidebottom was on fire, while Mikaela Wilkie was brought in from B-grade and was terrific around goals.
Kim and Bree Dudgeon played no part in the contest through injury, while Hope Irvine was unavailable through illness.
In other games, Dookie United was too good for Katunga 58-29, Katamatite upset Rennie in a thriller 33-32, while Tungamah defeated Waaia 45-30.
