Saints, Blues draw at Berrigan
Southern Riverina News (June 18)
A late surge by Berrigan against Picola United ended in a thrilling draw on Saturday.
The injury-struck Saints were lacking their usual flight and pace from the start and were behind the entire match, which they played at home.
The Blues kept the Saints virtually scoreless in the third term, apart from a miserable four behinds.
Loyal Berrigan supporters were a little uneasy, especially when they were joined by the dynamic Mynard twins, Jack and Cam, in the spectators’ area after being struck down by injury.
Unwavering in their support, the crowd got behind the Saints in the last term when they clawed their way back with some spectacular goals from Justin Crawford, Ted Walliss and backman-turned-forward James Ware with about two minutes left on the clock.
That kick brought the scores level but the Saints weren’t able to get their noses in front.
Despite his size Chris Patten played like he was the biggest player on the ground was rewarded for his efforts, while Braidy Lewis provided plenty of drive and run across the ground and was a pivotal player for the Saints.
Harley Middleton, who adapted superbly in his role, was named best-on-ground.
For the Blues, Dylan Cunningham added another four majors to his season tally and David Low was hard at it all day to be his team’s best, while Joel Cahir notched up his 100th game.
