With the finals now only four games away, there have been some interesting insights arising from round eleven action-:
The match of the round between the ladder leading Bulldogs and Hawks at Warramboo turned sour for the visitors as they were swamped by the rampant Bulldog machine. Central Eyre move clear on top of the table sounding an ominous warning to the competition. These two combatants will meet again in the 2nd semi final at Minnipa, in the meantime there will be some late night strategising going on in the Bay area looking at bridging this gap. The Bulldogs were very close to full strength, the Hawks do have some big in's yet, so dont discount the return of the reigning premier. Jake Bruce led the best for Central Eyre, is he back to the form that saw him win the last two Mail Medals?
Elliston are in the four, who would have thought that a few weeks ago?. The Roosters leg speed and skill was too much for the Maggies in an entertaining game. Seven yellow cards (10 minute send off) arising from a dispute on the wing, but players settled thereafter. Matt Williams and Adam Hurrell both big inclusions for the red and whites, courtesy of the Port Adelaide Magpies bye this week and both played great games. Wudinna United were brave in defeat, providing some great passages of play, but couldnt hit forward targets often enough. The Roosters have sounded a warning to the competition that they are here and are very serious, still the likes of Dean Wanganeen, Aaron Hand, Luke Pryor and maybe Jay Williams to return to this team, will this be a 2012 all over again?
Western Districts consolidated their third spot with a hard fought win over the hapless Bombers at Wirrulla. Anyone's game all the way and only two goals in it at the final siren. These two regularly feature in close hard scraps against each other and this one didnt disappoint, Wirrulla a goal up at the half. All is not lost for the Bombers, as they will host Elliston in two weeks, and the opportunity to regain a place in the four. The Tigers will be happy to have rebounded to the winners list quickly.
In the reserves, Central Eyre took a step closer to a double chance by knocking over second place Hawks, only percentage in the gap now between 2nd and 3rd. The Maggies held off an enthusiastic and young Elliston team, and with the win wrap up a finals berth for themselves, The Bombers continue their wonderful form, beating the struggling Tigers by a big margin.
The colts saw the 10 goal rule effected at each of the games, all at 3/4 time. The top placed Magpies held of a determined Elliston, bolstered by the holiday return on Guy Hutchison. The Tigers played a great game against the young Bombers, both sides improving with every game, the Hawks held out the reigning premier Bulldogs at Warramboo.
