The 2015 season continued on the weekend and some surprising results.
Cheers and beers at Bomberland, an inch of rain just prior to making the huge announcement that they are here for real as they eclipsed last years Grand Finalists - Bulldogs. A tight first half saw the business as usual Bulldogs two goals up at the break, but a twelve goal to three second half blast by Wirrulla sealed a wonderful win for themselves, and also to attention of five other clubs. Adam Braendler leading the way with new receuit Rowan Chester shaking of a knee strain the week prior, seasoned campaigner Simon Webb continuing his fast start to the season, future champ Lachie Ross and current champ Paul Haynes amongst the best. No panic in the Centrals camp, Martrin Grocke, Jared Sampson and Clint Winter missiing. Lachy Heath again named as best, Jesse Stringer, productive but he must not be expected top do everything. Jake Sampson and Kane Sampson also in the best. A quick regroup for the Dogs as they face the Tigers on ANZAC Day, and they lost thios match round three 2014.
West Coast Hawks found themselves in a hard physical encounter with the Magpies, getting home by 13 points, all of them hard earned. After the rain, a softer oval made hard running difficult and the close hard ball getters came to the fore. For the Hawks, on ballers Dillon Cabot, Dillon Montgomerie, Dylan Kelsh lead the way. Lewis Cotton is emerging as a key in the Hawks team, not tall in stuture, but a big heart and brave. Key forward Aiden Whitford was a big target and a strong defense led by Damien Johnson and Tyson Montgomerie. The Magpes remained highly competitive all match, winning the second half and playing a disciplined defensive style. Captain Coach Henry Zwar lead the best, speedster Scott Williams had plenty of the ball, Jonty Seal, on a weeks return home was great at the pivitol centre half forward role, covering plenty of ground. Tyler Ingliss at Centre Half Back judged the ball well and repelled Hawks attacks again and again.
The Roosters continued their recent dominance over the hapless Tigers, this time at Poochera, probably the Tigers favourite venue! Including all of round three 2014, the Tigers have played eight games, three of these have been against the Roosters (incl 1st semi final 2014) and they have lost them all. In this stretch the Tigers have beaten every other club in the League.
Right from the first whistle, Elliston were in top gear, leading by 48 points at half time. Things were corrected some what in the second half by the Districts boys, kicking five goals to one, but the damage had already been inficted! Matt Williams for the second week in a row dominated for the Roosters, welcome back Del Miller, a class player anywhere, Liam Newton and Waydan Sumner both elusive. The Tigers again well served by Lachy Mc Innis, Scott Feltus in the middle, Nathan Hebberman and Chris Williams in the best.
ANZAC Round promises to be a great spectacle at all venues,
Wudinna United v Wirrulla at Wudinna. The Bombers are leading the pack and loom as a real threat to the facied Hawks and Bulldogs. Magpies are better and playing good football, this is another challenge at home.
Elliston v West Coast Hawks at Elliston Always a hard place to visit and maybe numbers down a bit for the Roosters. Hawks will start favourites here but Elliston love to surprise, especially in front of the parochial home crowd.
Western Districts v Central Eyre at Minnipa. The Tigers will look to shut down the free run of the Centrals men, on the thinner Minnipa oval it is harder to find open space! On the rebound, the 'dogs will be anxious to bounce back quickly and will start favourites, but this is no easy asignment, the Tigers value possession and play a sound defensive team game
