The 2015 MAC SA Country Football Championships will be held in Port Augusta on Saturday July 4 and Sunday July 5.
Featuring the best footballers from the state’s six regional zones, the MAC SA Country Championships will see a total of nine matches played across two days at Central Oval.
Murray South East will be looking to defend its crown after breaking through for its first title last year, defeating Eastern by 30 points in the Grand Final.
After finishing third in 2014, Eyre Peninsula will be hunting a Grand Final berth this year while the previously dominant Southern Districts – which has won a total of nine titles – should be desperate to avoid another wooden spoon in sixth place.
At the conclusion of the carnival, a 2015 Team of the Championship will be named, with those players also rewarded with selection in the SA Country team to tackle WA Country on Saturday July 25 in Mandurah, WA.
The SA Country side will again be coached by experienced mentor Steve Lubcke, who has guided the Croweaters to consecutive victories against the Sandgropers in Perth (2013) and at Alberton Oval (2014).
Individual awards for the Best Player (Don McSweeny Medal),
Best Coach (Bill Murdoch Medal), Best Under-21 Player, Leading Goalkicker and
Best Umpire will also be presented.
South Australian Community Football League Manager Leeanne Grantham said the annual two-day event was eagerly anticipated by players, officials, coaches and umpires across the state.
‘’ The MAC are a wonderful partner to the SA Community Football League,’’ said Grantham, also paying tribute to the ongoing support provided by the Motor Accident Commission.
‘’Our regional clubs and leagues work closely with the MAC in delivering the Road Safety message through its Ambassador Program and by hosting SAPOL representatives to speak at football clubs to players and other community members.
‘’Sadly, some of our regional football clubs have experienced the devastation caused by road accidents and have since embraced the importance of the road safety message. In support of our partnership with the MAC, the SACFL will be conducting the first MAC Road Safety Round on July 11.
‘’This will follow the MAC SA Country Football Championships in Port Augusta, so a week long focus on this all important road safety message will hopefully benefit all South Australians.’’
