Kimba is a buzz this week as the small country town prepares to celebrate the 300th AFL match of Geelong great Corey Enright on Sunday.
The triple premiership defender’s family and friends will gather at the Kimba and Districts Football Club to watch the Cats’ clash with Melbourne at Simonds Stadium.
Such is the esteem Enright – also is held in by the locals, the club’s oval was this year renamed the Corey Enright Oval.
Speaking on Community Football Radio, Kimba and Districts FC President Peter Woolford said the whole district was excited about recognising the milestone of its greatest footballing export.
Woolford, who coached Enright as a junior, also provided a fascinating insight into what the Port Magpies draftee was like while developing his craft.
Despite being a teenager, Enright managed three seasons of senior football for Kimba Districts, culminating in winning the 1999 Mail Medal.
The All-Australian was originally a forward who spent time in the midfield, with Woolford revealing he had a knack of working his way out of traffic from an early age.
Enright’s achievements are also continuing to help foster the next generation of budding footballers in the region, providing them with inspiration to realise their dreams.
