An inform Central Eyre sent the Bombers crashing out of the finals with a devastating first half display that has everyone on notice. Seventy two points in the end, but fifty five point at half time. Disappointing end for Wirrulla after promising so much, maybe players missing too many matches in the lead up made things difficult. Centrals dominated the centre and quick ball movement had Wirrulla chasing right from the start.
Another great performance from Jake Sampson, who knocked up possessions all day, leading the Bulldog charge, Jake Bruce speed and electrifying skills, Keenan Bury another in and under game, Kane Sampson a general and Lachlan Heath back to his best. Quick hands and feet were the key, Jesse Syringer and Jared Sampson are all class in this department, and Wade O Brien, back up forward providing a focal point with five goals.
Concern with Jared Sampson leaving the ground with a knock, so the Bulldog training staff will be hard at work again.
Wirrulla were never able to attain any fluency in the game, worked hard but rattled by the Bulldog early onslaught. Best were Ryan Watson, a superb year and high possession winner every week, Paul Haynes, back in this week and good around the centre all day, Adam Braendler always busy, Andrew Bitmead across half back, Dean Vickery and Rob Holmes in the best. Jarden Stoetzer leaving the ground and missing the second half not at all what the Bombers needed when facing a large catch up at half time. Jarden is a key mover in the side and has performed so well this year despite the ongoing hamstring issue.
Central Eyre have earned the right for a challenge for the premiership, this week’s game indicates that they have continued their forward momentum and they will be looking forward to re-matching the Hawks. Wirrulla have improved markedly this year, a sad end no doubt, but plenty of positives for the club to reflect on.
Western Districts continue their late season charge with a close fought win over the Hawks in the Reserves. Fifteen points win, but trailing by twenty one points at half time. Plenty for a vocal crowd of supporter to cheers about in a desperate last quarter, the Tigers kicking four goals to one to run over the West Coast Hawks. Entertaining match and what Preliminary Finals are all about. Leading the Tigers Trent Brace, Dylan Beinke, Sam Wakefield, Nathan Hebbermann, and Jesse Hull, quite an A Grade flavour about that list!. The Hawks best served by Phil Hargens, Kyle Tucker, Hayden Cupples, Tom Cash and Rhys Wisbey. The Tigers have plenty of speed and enough goal kicking power to concern the high flying Bombers next week.
West Coast Hawks earned a Grand Final spot in the colts with a resounding win over the Western Districts Tigers. Bigger bodies and too many avenues to score for the Tiger defence to cover. The match was played in great spirit and both sides moving the ball with clean accurate disposal skills. For the Hawks, Zak Lovegrove, Kyan Saunders, Liam Mc Donald, Locky Redden and Jonti Brice leading their best, and Tigers Charlie Williams, Josh Horgan, Lloyd Raftery, Dwight Raftery and Ethan Tomney all having good games.
The Hawks colts will take on the Magpies in the Grand Final, and will enjoy a home ground advantage.
All eye now turn to Streaky Bay, Grand Final week, this is where memories are made
