14 December 2015
The second EP Livestock & Real Estate and CPH Accountants Academy session for 2016 was held on the Eyre Peninsula on Sunday with players assembling in Wudinna for a Norwood football and testing session in very warm conditions.
Jarrod Cotton attended his first session as the new EP Academy Coach, along with Senior Coach, Ben Warren, and Talent Manager, Robbie Neill and they were very happy with the attendance of 45 players, with the majority driving several hours to attend.
The Academy player’s height and weight were taken on arrival and then Robbie Neill outlined why we test our players and what training would look like for the day. The players then applied themselves very well to the vertical jump, 40m sprint, agility test and lastly, the beep test.
Jacob Kennerley from the Cummins Ramblers took out the beep test with a very impressive 14.4 with Kyle Tucker, West Coast Hawks FC, not far behind. Lachie Charlton, Marble Range FC, was also a stand out across all categories, showing great speed, athleticism and endurance.
After lunch the players enjoyed the football program that Robbie Neill put together, working their way through different scenario’s they faced in forward entry and in defensive exit with Jarrod Cotton and Ben Warren.
Robbie wrapped the program up at 3:45pm after a discussion on what the players had learnt for the day, the best ways to help them improve their football and what the next academy session entails. The next academy session will be held on the 17th January in Ceduna, which is also now the home of former NFC champion and four time premiership player, Jim Michalanney!
A big thankyou to the Wudinna United Football Club and Wudinna Community Club - Georgia Kontos who hosted the academy session and did a great job catering for 75 people for lunch. Also, thank you to Paradise Motors who provided the vehicle across to Wudinna for the six hour drive!
See you in Ceduna!
