The Australian Country Junior Basketball Cup will have four teams competing in the annual Pacific Rim Championships in New Zealand over the Easter Weekend.

Following the successful 2013 Tour, Under 15 Boys and Girls and Under 17 Boys and Girls teams were selected and named at the conclusion of the 2014 Country Cup in January. The teams will play in the elite divisions of the Tournament. Four referees from the 2014 Cup are also members of the Touring Party.

Four players from the Limestone Coast have been named in the teams. They are Under 15 player Matthew Black of Naracoorte and Under 17’s Olivia Fuller of Millicent along with Brenna McKay and Tenille Gray both of Mount Gambier.

Former Junior Lakers Michael and Mitchell Harris are also members of the teams

The Country Cup party with Cup Director and SA Country Basketball President Bert Bargeus is the Tour Leader. They travel to New Zealand next Wednesday, train and do some sight -seeing on Thursday. The Pacific Rim Championships will be played from April 18^th to 21^st.

This year the “Rim” is being played in Tauranga in a new nine court stadium. To date there are 102 teams nominated.

Basketball Pacific is made up of regional and affiliated Associations in the North Island of New Zealand. They work together to provide development opportunities for players, coaches and referees.

Since the birth of the “Rim” the quality of the Championships have improved as new standards and ideas are introduced.

Tour Leader Bargeus is pleased to have the Country Cup represented in these Championships because New Zealand has competed in the Country Cup for more than 20 years.
