Trio in S A Under 20 Basketball Teams

Mount Gambier and Pioneers squad members Kane DeWit and Monyjath Makuer along with former Laker Georgia Green, have been selected in the 2015 South Australian Under 20 Basketball teams, which will compete in the Australian Junior Championships in Dandenong, Victoria from February 22nd to 28th.

Paul Rigoni is in charge of the Men’s team and Kerry-Lee Stuart is the Women’s coach.

deWit and Green have had outstanding and successful careers as basketballers in local Mount Gambier programs, Junior Lakers representative teams and SA Country Junior State teams through the junior age divisions. Both have also played for Metropolitan District Division 1 junior teams, deWit with Forestville and Green with Eastern Mavericks.

Green, in her second year as an Under 20 representative, now lives in Adelaide and plays for Eastern Mavericks in the Central Australian Basketball League, which will take on a new name, the Premier League, in 2015.

deWit, and Makuer, in their first year in this age group, are members of the Pioneers squad, the 2014 SEABL National Champions.

2014 has been a stellar year for deWit. He made an impressive debut for the Pioneers and at the same continues as the on court leader for his Club team, Cougars, in the local South East Basketball League.

Monyjath Makuer hails from Newcastle NSW and moved to Mount Gambier in January to attend Tenison Woods College and join the Titans Basketball Academy under Head Coach Matt Paton. Makuer made steady progress as a member of the Pioneers’ squad under the astute coaching of Richard Hill and is a newcomer to the SA state scene. Makuer plays for local Club Roos and with Pioneers’ team-mate, Lukass Blicavs, has Roos showing good form in a close and tough competition this season.
