LOCAL SUMMER BASKETBALL RESUMES

Basketball Mount Gambier’s Summer Basketball season resumes next Tuesday when the two Divisions of Under 12 Boys participate in their training sessions and games at 5pm and 6pm. The two Divisions of Men’s B Grade and Women’s Social follow.

The South East Coast Basketball League plays Round 10 of the 15 week minor round fixture next Wednesday night. Highlights of this round will be the clashes between third and fourth placed Panthers and Roos along with Wizards, in second spot, and last season premier Cougars. Lukass Blicavs and Mony Makuer are the key players for Roos while Panthers have had several players contributing, including Jak Ryan, Tyson Kettle, Brown brothers and junior Brad Close. The result in Round 5 saw Roos win 92-87.

Cougars lost narrowly, 71-76 in their earlier meeting with Panthers-Wizards this season.

Cougars will possibly be without Sam Stafford for the remainder of the season as he intends to pursue his football career with Glenelg. Cougars have a pool of experienced senior players and talented juniors including Zach deWit. It will be interesting to see if Nick Morrison pulls on the Wizards strip after a lengthy period of rehabilitation from injury.

Top of the table, Bulldogs play Millicent at Millicent in the other men’s game.

Panthers and Millicent head the Women’s table at this stage. Panthers take on 4th placed Roos while Bulldogs journey to Millicent. Panthers managed to open up a gap in the second half in their first encounter against Roos. Bulldogs have been improving each week but players will need to find a little extra to cover the loss of Sara Chapple, who has transferred to Adelaide in her employment.
