COUNTRY VICTORIA BASKETBALL ON THE HORIZON

Basketball Mount Gambier, in gearing up for the 2015/16 Victoria Country Basketball season, is calling for expressions of interest from Coaches and players for the senior Lakers’ teams.

The Lakers have enjoyed outstanding successes in the Country Victoria Basketball League since the Men first participated in the South West Conference in the 2010/11 season and were joined by the Lakers Women the next season.

In their first year, the Lakers Men finished Conference runner-up to Barwon Bullets.

The next year, 2011/12, proved to be the Lakers’ most successful season. They were the respective South West Conference Champions and then went on to claim the All Conference Champions’ Banners on the Ice House pine. The Lakers Men defeated the Shepparton Gators and the Women accounted for a physical Wodonga Lady Wolves in the All Conference Championship games.

In the next two years, the Lakers Men made it three Conference titles in a row followed by runners-up in the All Conference title games.

The Lakers Women returned to the CBL scene last season and finished runner-up in the Conference Final to the Warrnambool Mermaids, while the Men were beaten by eventual Conference Champion Colac in the semi-final.

Basketball Mount Gambier is keen to give senior players the opportunity to compete in these high standard competitions again this season and to continue the Lakers’ successes in the Country Basketball League.

Player registrations are due by the end of July and Trials will be held mid-August. There is a possibility of a Pre-Season Tournament in September.

The CBL season of 14 rounds begins over the weekend of October 10th and11th. The CBL Cancer Awareness Round will be played over the weekend of December 12th and 13th and the Christmas/New Year break extends from December 21st to January 8th.

The finals series will be played over two weekends. On January 30th 2016 two Conference Semi-finals will be played, 1 v 4 and 2 v 3, followed by the Conference Grand Finals on Saturday February 6th 2016 at a venue to be decided by tender.
