A sunny morning greeted players & supporters at Adelaide Uni Oval 1 for the final round of Division 1 matches. Queensland buoyed by a good performance against WA were keen to do well against a Victorian team starting to play a good brand of footy.
QLD came out really strongly at the first bounce applying a forward press as they worked to keep the ball in their forward 50. This worked well for the first part of the quarter & the Sunfire had plenty of the ball inside 50 but were unable to capitalise. Victoria worked hard to beat the press & work their way through to kick 2 first quarter goals. The Vics by 12 points at quarter time.
Victoria played some very good footy in the 2nd quarter kicking 5 goals while holding QLD to a solitary point. QLD battled tenaciously and were hard at the ball being very well led by their courageous skipper Jo Butland. The Big V led by 43 points at half time.
The Vic team came out after half time and kicked another 5 goals with some pinpoint passing & excellent use of handballs to a free player. Vic by 71 points at the last change.
Queensland kept working hard and never gave up as they searched for their first goal. Victoria added 5 goals for the quarter and continued to impress. The Sunfire gave their all and never gave up right throughout the game. An example of their endeavour was the fact that they only had 9 less tackles than Victoria. Victoria will now take on WA in the Grand Final and that's a whole new ball game.
