Aaron Shay Memorial Award
Aaron started refereeing basketball when his daughters Jessica and Brodie took up the sport. After a couple of years the girls went on to other pursuits but Aaron continued to referee, soon taking on a mentoring role helping to develop the confidence of young referees at the life be in it centre. Sadly and without warning in October 2002, Aaron was diagnosed with a brain aneurism and after a six week struggle, he passed away on November 18 at age 37. Aaron was one of those people you couldn't help but like, he was a big tall man with a smile that covered his whole face. Everyone loved him and everyone knew him, he was just that kind of personality.
This award is presented to the referees who best display the attributes required to be a good official, have shown improvement and are encouraged to further pursue their careers as officials of our game of basketball.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
